Sr-Nd isotopic compositions of the Changjiang sediments: Implications for tracing sediment sources显示文摘The suspended particulate and fine-grained floodplain sediments were collected from the main stream and tributaries of the Changjiang River for Sr-Nd isotopic measurements. The εNd(0) values gradually decrease downstream from -10.8 on average in the upper reaches to -12.3 in the lower reaches, whereas the 87Sr/86Sr ratios increase correspondingly, averaging 0.721899 and 0.725826 respectively in the upper and middle-lower reaches. The compositional variations primarily reflect the complex con- trols of provenance rocks, chemical weathering, and sediment characters between different catchments, among which the abnormal Sr-Nd isotopic compositions of the Yalong, Fujiang, Tuojiang and Yuanjiang rivers indicate the sediment provenance contributions from the Emeishan Basalt in the upper reaches and the old metamorphic and siliceous rocks in the middle-lower reaches. The Sr-Nd isotopic ratios of the Changjiang sediments can better reflect the average composition of weathered continental crust compared to other major rivers in the world because of the unique source rock types in the Changjiang drainage basin. The recognition of the Sr-Nd isotopic systematics of the Changjiang sediments will contribute to our understanding of the Changjiang evolution history and continental weathering processes during the Cenozoic, and also to reconstructing the paleoenvironmental changes in East China and the marginal seas. | YANG ShouYe1?, JIANG ShaoYong2, LING HongFei2, XIA XiaoPing3, SUN Min3 & WANG DeJie4 1 State Key Laboratory of Marine Geology, Tongji University, Shanghai 200092, China 2 State Key Laboratory for Mineral Deposit Research, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210093, China 3 Departmen of Earth Sciences, The University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong SAR, China 4 Development Research Center, China Geological Survey, Beijing 100083, China | 2007 | Science China Earth Sciences2007,50,10: | 32
Assessment of candidate plant DNA barcodes using the Rutaceae family显示文摘DNA barcoding is a rapidly developing frontier technology that is gaining worldwide attention. Here, seven regions (psbA-trnH,matK,ycf5,rpoC1,rbcL,ITS2,and ITS) with potential for use as DNA barcodes were tested for their ability to identify 300 samples of 192 species from 72 genera of the family Rutaceae. To evaluate each barcode’s utility for species authentication,PCR amplification efficiency, genetic divergence, and barcoding gaps were assessed. We found that the ITS2 region exhibited the highest inter-specific divergence, and that this was significantly higher than the intra-specific variation in the 'DNA barcoding gap' assessment and Wilcoxon two-sample tests. The ITS2 locus had the highest identification efficiency among all tested regions. In a previous study,we found that ITS2 was able to discriminate a wide range of plant taxa, and here we confirmed that ITS2 was also able to discriminate a number of closely related species. Therefore,we propose that ITS2 is a promising candidate barcode for plant species identification. | LUO Kun1,2,CHEN ShiLin1,CHEN KeLi2,SONG JingYuan1,YAO Hui1,MA XinYe1,ZHU YingJie3,PANG XiaoHui1,YU Hua1,LI XiWen1,4 & LIU Zhen2 1Institute of Medicinal Plant Development,Peking Union Medical College,Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences,Beijing 100193,China 2College of Pharmacy,Hubei University of Chinese Medicine,Wuhan 430061,China 3School of Bioscience and Engineering,Southwest Jiaotong University,Chengdu 610031,China 4Department of Chemistry,Tsinghua University,Beijing 100084,China | 2010 | Science China(Life Sciences)2010,53,6: | 32
Challenges in Research and Development of Traditional Chinese Medicines显示文摘This review is briefly to recall the history of research and development (R&D) of Chinese materia medica (CMM) and to discuss the challenges of Chinese traditional and herbal medicines (CTHM) facing the modern science and technology. The R&D of CTHM is thought to be an important pathway for new drug discovery. Since1949, about 140 approved new drugs have been developed, among which about 80 originated directly or indirectly from medicinal plants. CTHM has gained interest from the international medical, biomedical, and pharmaceutical institutions as a valuable source of potential medicines. For the modernization of CMM and innovative research of CTHM, there are following challenges to be faced: (1) to evaluate the efficacy, pharmacological properties, action mechanism, and active chemical constituents; (2) to develop new methodologies for the quality and safety of CTHM; (3) to apply new '-omics' techniques to accelerate drug discoveries developed from CTHM; and (4) to apply international practices including good agricultural practice, good manufacturing practice, good laboratory practice, and good clinical practice in the R&D of CTHM. | LIU Chang-xiao1*, XIAO Pei-gen2, PENG Yong2, SONG Nai-ning1 1. | 6 | Prevention and Treatment of Osteoporosis with Chinese Herbal Medicines显示文摘In this paper, laboratory reports, medication rules, formulating principles, and research methods are summarized and analyzed, including single herb, compound herbs, and the problems in the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis(OP) within the past decade. With widely recognized efficacy, satisfying achievements have been achieved in preventing and treating OP with Chinese herbal medicines(CHM).However, due to the complex constituents, the pharmacological activities and mechanism of CHM are not clear yet,and there is no unified standard on the diagnosis and syndrome differentiation of OP and the efficacy evaluation of CHM in the treatment.Accordingly, the research in the future should focus on the pharmacology and standardization of CHM in treating OP. | ZHAO Xiao-ling1,2,FENG Yu-xiong1,2,3,PENG Yong1,2 1.Institute of Medicinal Plant Development,Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College,Beijing 100193,China 2.Key Laboratory of Bioactive Substances and Resources Utilization of Chinese Herbal Medicines,Ministry of Education,Beijing 100193,China 3.College of Basic Medicine,Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine,Nanning 530001,China | 2012 | Chinese Herbal Medicines2012,4,4: | 28
Structural characteristics and petroliferous features of Tarim Basin显示文摘Using the modern tectonic geology theories andmethods such as the plate tectonic analysis, the paleo-struc-ture analysis, the structural-Iithofacies analysis, and the faultrelated fold and petroleum system, and combining with theseismic data, well drilling data and the circumferential fieldgeology, study on the structural characteristics and petro-leum prospect in the Tarim Basin has been carried out. Re-sults show that the Tarim Basin is a large superimpositionand combination basin with continental crustal basement, composed of a Paleozoic craton and Meso-Cenozoic forelandbasins. The characteristics of the basin are: the kernel partof the basin is the marine facies Paleozoic craton, superim-posed 4 continental facies foreland basins. Though the scaleof the paleozoic craton of the Tarim Basin is relatively small, the structure is steady. The petroleum prospect of the Paleo-zoic craton is: multiphase pool-generation and accumulationcontrolled by ancient uplift. The Meso-Cenozoic forelandbasins in the Tarim Basin, which are distributed on the era-tonic circumference and are a long-term subsidence, turnedinto rejuvenated foreland basins after the Meso-Cenozoicperiod. The petroleum prospects are: coal-bed generatinghydrocarbon, abundant natural gas, pool-generation in laterand recent periods, the oil and gas distribution controlled bythe foreland thrust belt. The structural characteristics ofTarim provide it with a superimposition and combinationpetroleum system of multiple resources, multiple reservoirsand multiphase pool-generation. The oil and gas explorationprospect covers two large fields: the Paleozoic craton and theMeso-Cenozoic foreland thrust belt. | JIA Chengzao~1 & WEI Guoqi~2 1. | 8 | Lithosphere types in North China:Evidence from geology and geophysics显示文摘On the basis of the characteristics of geology and geophysics in North China, three types of lithosphere, namely, the cratonic, the orogenic and the rift lithospheres can be classified. In terms of petrological method (based on the information from Precambrian rock assemblages, igneous activities, deep-seated enclaves, etc.) and the relationship between seismic velocity and rock compositions, the crust-mantle petrological and chemical structure models can be set up. Researching results indicate that the geology and geophysics of North China platform bears the similar characteristics in comparison with those of the global typical cratons. The Eerduosi(Ordos) block located in the west of the North China Platform is a remnant of cratonic lithosphere after the North China platform had undergone “activation” in Mesozoic and “reconstruction” in Cenozoic times. The continental crust consists mainly of TTG rock assemblage while the subcontinental lithosphere mantle mainly consists of strongly depleted harzburgite. The craton was finally formed in late Archaean and early Proterozoic, and has been kept in stability up to present; its crustal-mantle petrological structures of lithosphere can be set up as a reference for the study of North China craton and even Sino-Korean craton. In the Mesozoic period, the middle and east areas of North China platform were activated in the Yanshanian orogenic process, the continental crust was reformed by material and heat-transfer of convective mantle and the original crustal TTG component was reconstructed to be granitic crust, and the subcontinental lithosphere man- tle was replaced by the Yanshanian harzburgite-lherzolite. The Yanshan-Taihang Mountains were the remnants of orogenic lithosphere after the rifting in eastern North China in Cenozoic. The present thickness of continental crust and lithosphere in the Yanshan-Taihang Mountains is not equal to their thickness during the Yanshanian orogenic movement because they had undergone the crustal extensional thinning in Cenozoic, however, the material and structure of lithosphere mantle-crust were formed during the Yanshanian orogenic movement. In the Cenozoic Period, the rift-type lithosphere, as represented by the North China plain, was formed by the continental rifting occurring in the eastern part of North China. The continental granitic crust, which had been “acidified” at the Yanshanian period, was basified again by the eruption of basalt magma along the continental rifting, and the subcontinental lithosphere mantle formed in Yanshanian was de- stroyed and replaced by the Himalayan mantle which consists mainly of lherzolite. Both the crust and the lithospheric mantle in the rift have undergone extensional thinning and thermal erosion at lithospheric-scale, the material and structure of the present mantle-crust lithosphere, attained from geophysical exploration, was formed in Cenozoic. The formation and evolution of litho- sphere in North China indicate that the material and heat transferred by convective mantle into the continental crust was the key for different types of lithosphere forming, and the crust-mantle petrologic structure was the records of lithosphere evolution, and it was the integrated results of the deep processes of the China continental dynamic system and the Pacific Plate subduction located in the eastern margin of the North China platform in Mesozoic-Cenozoic time. | QIU Ruizhao1,2, DENG Jinfu3, ZHOU Su3, LI Jinfa4, XIAO Qinghui1,5, WU Zongxu6 & LIU Cui3 1. | 9 | Total alkyl dibenzothiophenes content tracing the filling pathway of condensate reservoir in the Fushan Depression,South China Sea显示文摘The condensates are generally characterized by high maturity, low concentration of steranes and ter-panes biomarkers and low content of non-hydrocarbon fraction. In this case commonly used steranes, terpanes and carbazoles parameters cannot be effectively applied in the reservoir-filling tracing. The hydrogen bond formed by sulfur atom in the dibenzothiophenes (DBTs) results in molecule adsorption and fractionation during oil migration in reservoir. Like carbazoles, total DBTs content decreases with the increasing of oil migration distance. Therefore,a new parameter——total DBTs content is proposed to be used to trace the oil migration orientation and filling pathway. In present study, total DBTs con-tents of condensates and light oils are obtained by adding internal standard——eight deuterium atoms substituted DBT during Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry analysis of aromatic fraction. Except for a few samples with much lower content of non-hydrocarbon fraction, the total DBTs content shows a fine positive correlation with that of carbazoles. Large errors can be caused in the process of pyrrolic nitrogen compounds separation. The application of this new parameter in the Fushan Depression of Beibu Gulf Basin,South China Sea indicates that this parameter is a reliable one to trace filling pathway in condensate reservoirs. Combined with other DBTs-related parameters, such as 4-/1-methydibenzo-thiophene and 2,4-/1,4-dimethyldibenzothiophene,oil migration orientation and filling pathway of the Fushan Depression was determined. The accumulations of Huachang oil field in the Fushan Depres-sion are mainly migrated and charged from northeast to southeast along the Huachang uplift. It can be predicated that the light oil and condensates in the Huachang oil field should be sourced from the source kitchen at the Bailian Sag. It shows that total DBTs content is an effective parameter to tracing oil migration orientation and filling pathway. | LI MeiJun1,WANG TieGuan1,LIU Ju2,ZHANG MeiZhu2,LU Hong3,MA QinLin2 & GAO LiHui2 1 State Key Laboratory of Petroleum Resources and Prospecting,Earth Sciences and Geoinformatics School,China University of Petroleum,Beijing 102249,China 2 Southern Oil Exploration and Development Company,PetroChina,Guangzhou 510640,China 3 Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Guangzhou 510240,China | 2008 | Science China Earth Sciences2008,51,S2: | 24
Relationship between DNA Barcoding and Chemical Classification of Salvia Medicinal Herbs显示文摘Objective To make the identification of medicinal herbs in Salvia L.quickly and accurately. Methods In this work,DNA barcoding and chemical fingerprint were compared for the identification of herbs in Salvia L.First, the nucleotide sequences of the internal transcribed spacer region two amplified from 48 medicinal plants in Salvia L.,and three other groups of medicinal plants in Lamiaceae were sequenced.A molecular phylogeny was constructed using the minimum evolution and maximum parsimony methods according to their sequence diversity.Second, the water-solution bioactive components and lipid soluble components were tested by HPLC.Then a chemical phylogeny was built using HPLC fingerprint data.Comparing the molecular and chemical phylogenetic trees revealed many similarities. Results DNA barcoding was sequencing based and could therefore provide more accurate results within a shorter time especially in large-scale studies. Conclusion The results show that ITS2 region is a novel DNA barcode for the authentication of the species in Salvia L.This is the first work to show the relationship between DNA barcoding and chemical components. | HAN Jian-ping1,LIU Chang2,LI Min-hui1,3,SHI Lin-chun1,SONG Jing-yuan1,YAO Hui1,PANG Xiao-hui1,CHEN Shi-lin1,4 1.Institute of Medicinal Plant Development,Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences,Beijing 100193,China 2.Molecular Chinese Medicine Laboratory,LKS Faculty of Medicine,The University of Hong Kong,Hong Kong,China 3.Baotou Medical College,Baotou 014040,China 4.Hubei University of Chinese Medicine,Wuhan 430065,China | 2010 | Chinese Herbal Medicines2010,2,1: | 23

Evidence of the Pan-Lake Stage in the Period of 40-28 ka B.P. on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau显示文摘The Qinghai-Tibet plateau is one of major saline lake regions in China, where saline lakes are widespread and constitute an important object of researches on the palaeoclimatic change in the region. On the basis of comprehensive investigations of the evolution of the lake’s surface and sediments on the plateau, the authors have further demonstrated the existence of a pan-lake stage (river and lake flooding stage) on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau during the period of about 40+-28 ka B.P. and analyzed the palaeoclimatic characteristics of the pan-lake period and relationships between the ancient monsoons and the uplift of the plateau since the beginning of the Quaternary. | ZHENG Mianping, MENG Yifeng and Wei LejunResearch & Development Center of Saline Lake and Epithermal Deposits,Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences, Beijing 100037 | 2000 | Acta Geologica Sinica(English Edition)2000,74,2: | 22

Natural gas origins of large and medium-scale gas fields in China sedimentary basins显示文摘China sedimentary basins present abundant natural gas resource thanks to its unique geological settings.Marine highly-matured hydrocarbon source rocks, widespread coal-measure strata and low temperature Quaternary saline strata, etc.,indicate the wide foreground of China natural gas resources. Up to now, most of the petroliferous basins have been discovered to have wholesale natural gas accumulation from Precambrian,Paleozoic,Mesozoic to Cenozoic in the east, the central, the west and the coast of China. These large and medium-scale gas reservoirs are mainly composed of hydrocarbon gas with big dry coefficient, tiny non-hydrocarbon,wide carbon isotope distribution and varying origin types, the hydrocarbon gas includes coal-formed gas,oil-formed gas, biogenic gas and inorganic gas, etc.Coal-formed gas is the main type of China natural gas resources,in particular several explored large-scale gas fields(>100 billion cubic meter)of Kela 2,Sulige and Daniudi, etc.,they all belong to coal-formed gas fields or the gas fields consisting mostly of coal-formed gas.Oil-formed gas is also abundant in China marine basins, for example marine natural gas of Sichuan Basin generated from crude oil cracking gas.Primary and secondary biogenic gas fields were discovered respectively in the Qaidam Basin and Western Slope of Songliao Basin. In addition, inorganic gases are mainly distributed in the eastern China,in particular the Songliao Basin with abundant carbon dioxide accumulation, indicating that the eastern China present large exploration potential of inorganic gas. | ZHANG ShuiChang &ZHU GuangYou Research Center of Research Institutes of PetroChina Exploration and Development,Beijing 100083,China | 2008 | Science China Earth Sciences2008,51,S1: | 21

Preliminary study on the origin identification of natural gas by the parameters of light hydrocarbon显示文摘The light hydrocarbon composition of 209 natural gas samples and individual light hydrocarbon carbon isotopes of 53 natural gas samples from typical humic-sourced gas and sapropelic-sourced gas in the four basins of China have been determined and analyzed. Some identification parameters for humic-sourced gas and sapropelic-sourced gas are proposed or corrected. The differences of compound-specificδ13C value of individual light hydrocarbon between humic-sourced gas and sapropelic-sourced gas have been founded. The humic-sourced gas has the distribution ofδ13C benzene > -24‰,δ13C toluene >-23‰,δ13C cyclohexane >-24‰andδ13C methyl cyclohexane >-24‰,while the sapropelicsourced gas has the distribution ofδ13C benzene <-24‰,δ13C toluene <-24‰,δ13C cyclohexane <-24‰and δ13C methyl cyclohexane <-24‰.Among the components of C7 light hydrocarbon compound, such as normal heptane(nC7),methyl cyclohexane(MCH)and dimethyl cyclopentane(ΣDMCP),etc, relative contents of nC7 and MCH are influenced mainly by the source organic matter type of natural gas. Therefore,it is suggested that the gas with relative content of nC7 of more than 30%and relative content of MCH of less than 70%is sapropelic-sourced gas, while gas with relative content of nC7 of less than 35%and relative content of MCH of more than 50%is humic-sourced gas.Among components of C5-7 aliphatics, the gas with relative content of C5-7 normal alkane of more than 30%is sapropelic-sourced gas, while the gas with relative content of C5-7 normal alkane of less than 30%is humic-sourced gas. These paremeters have been suggested to identify humic-sourced gas and sapropelic-sourced gas. | HU GuoYi 1,2,3 ,LI Jian 1,2 ,LI Jin 1,2 ,LI ZhiSheng 1,2 ,LUO Xia 1,2 ,SUN QingWu 1,2 &MA ChengHua 1,2 1 Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration and Development(Langfang Branch),Petrochina,Langfang 065007,China 2 The Key Laboratory of Gas Formation and Development,Petrochina,Langfang 065007,China 3 College of Geo-Resources and Information,China University of Petroleum,Beijing 102200,China | 2008 | Science China Earth Sciences2008,51,S1: | 19
Theory on real-time control of construction quality and progress and its application to high arc dam显示文摘A complete scheme for solving the key scientific problems associated with high-standard,high-intensity continuous construction of high arch dams was presented. First, based on a coupling analysis of construction system decomposition and coordination for a high arc dam,a mathematical model for real-time control of construction quality and progress that considers complex constraints was developed. Second,a method of progress control was proposed based on a dynamic simulation. Third,a dynamic quality control mechanism was established based on construction information collected using a PDA. Fourth,a system for integrating collected information, progress simulation and quality control analyses under a network environment was developed. Finally, these methods were applied to a practical project to show that each aspect of a construction process can be managed effectively and that real-time monitoring and feedback control can be realized. | 18 | EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF FLOWFIELD STRUCTURE AROUND AN OGIVE-CYLINDER显示文摘The flowfield structure and their aerodynamic characteristics over an ogive cylinder were studied by means of flow visualization and surface pressure measurement in a water tunnel and a wind tunnel. The existence of multi asymmetric vortices over long slender bodies was experimentally confirmed at large angles of attack and in the subcritical Reynolds number range. The spatial 3 D characteristics of the multi vortices system were analyzed and a physical model was developed. The topological structure of different patterns in cross flow plane was studied and the mechanism governing the formation of asymmetric vortices and multi vortices was discussed from the viewpoint of stability of the topological structure. It was concluded that the maximum in the sectional side force distribution curve are not caused by the shedding of higher position vortex, but by the cross over to the symmetric plane of the lower position vortex. | Ph.D.Candidate:Wang Gang Fluid Mechanics Institute, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing 100083, China,Supervisor: Deng Xue ying (Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics) Members of Dissertation Defense Committee: Tong Bing gang (Graduate School of the Chinese Academy of Sciences),Chairman Gu Zhi fu (Peking University) Yang Qi de (China Aerodynamics Research and Development Center) Lv Zhi yong (Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics) Liu Pei qing (Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics) | 2003 | Journal of Hydrodynamics2003,15,5: | 18
| 19 | TREATMENT OF METALS, POLYMER FILMS, AND FABRICS WITHA ONE ATMOSPHERE UNIFORM GLOW DISCHARGE PLASMA(OAUGDP) FOR INCREASED SURFACE ENERGY AND DIRECTIONAL ETCHING显示文摘Direct exposure of samples to the active species of air generated by a One Atmosphere Uniform Glow Discharge Plasma (OAUGDP) has been used to etch and to increase the surface energy of metallic surfaces, photoresist, polymer films, and nonwoven fab- rics. The OAUGDP is a non-thermal plasma with the classical characteristics of a DC normal glow discharge that operates in air (and other gases) at atmospheric pres- sure. Neither a vacuum system nor batch processing is necessary. A wide range of applications to metals, photoresist, films, fabrics, and polymeric webs can be accom- modated by direct exposure of the workpiece to the plasma in parallel-plate reactors. This technolopy is simple, it produces effects that can be obtained in no other way at one atmosphere; it generates minimal pollutants or unwanted by-products; and it is suitable for individual sample or online treatment of metallic surfaces, wafers, films, and fabrics. Early exposures of solid materials to the OAUGDP required minutes to produce rela- tively small increases of surface energy. These durations appeared too long for com- mercial application to fast-moving webs. Recent improvements in OAUGDP gas com- position, power density, plasma quality, recireulating gas flow, and impedance match- ing of the power supply to the parallel plate plasma reactor have made it possible to raise the surface energy of a variety of polymeric webs (PP, PET PE etc.) to levels of 60 to 70 dynes/cm with one second of exposure. In air plasmas, the high surface ener- gies are not durable, and fall to 50 dynes/cm after periods of weeks to months. Here, we report the exposure of metallic surfaces, photoresist, polymeric films, and nonwo- ven fabrics made of PP and PET to an impedance matched parallel plate OAUGDP for durations ranging from one second to several tens of seconds. Data will be re- ported on the surface energy, wettability, wickability, and aging effect of polymeric films and fabrics as functions of time of exposure, and time after exposure; the rate and uniformity of photoresist etching; and the production of sub-micron structures by OAUGDP etching at one atmosphere. | J.
