| 1 | Critical review of EPS production, synthesis and composition for sludge flocculation显示文摘Extracellular polymeric substances(EPS) produced by microorganisms represent biological macromolecules with unfathomable potentials and they are required to be explored further for their potential application as a bioflocculant in various wastewater sludge treatment. Although several studies already exist on biosynthetic pathways of different classical biopolymers like alginate and xanthan, no dedicated studies are available for EPS in sludge. This review highlights the EPS composition, functionality, and biodegradability for its potential use as a carbon source for production of other metabolites. Furthermore, the effect of various extraction methods(physical and chemical) on compositional, structural, physical and functional properties of microbial EPS has been addressed. The vital knowledge of the effect of extraction method on various important attributes of EPS can help to choose the suitable extraction method depending upon the intended use of EPS. | 2 | Optimum path planning of mobile robot in unknown static and dynamic environments using Fuzzy-Wind Driven Optimization algorithm显示文摘This article introduces a singleton type-1 fuzzy logic system(T1-SFLS) controller and Fuzzy-WDO hybrid for the autonomous mobile robot navigation and collision avoidance in an unknown static and dynamic environment. The WDO(Wind Driven Optimization) algorithm is used to optimize and tune the input/output membership function parameters of the fuzzy controller. The WDO algorithm is working based on the atmospheric motion of infinitesimal small air parcels navigates over an N-dimensional search domain. The performance of this proposed technique has compared through many computer simulations and real-time experiments by using Khepera-Ⅲ mobile robot. | 4 | Analysis and use of fuzzy intelligent technique for navigation of humanoid robot in obstacle prone zone显示文摘With the increasing use of humanoid robots in several sectors of industrial automation and manufacturing, navigation and path planning of humanoids has emerged as one of the most promising area of research. In this paper, a navigational controller has been developed for a humanoid by using fuzzy logic as an intelligent algorithm for avoiding the obstacles present in the environment and reach the desired target position safely. Here, the controller has been designed by careful consideration of the navigational parameters by the help of fuzzy rules. The sensory information regarding obstacle distances and bearing angle towards the target are considered as inputs to the controller and necessary velocities for avoiding the obstacles are obtained as outputs. The working of the controller has been tested on a NAO humanoid robot in V-REP simulation platform. | 5 | Imaging in renal trauma显示文摘Renal injuries are classified,based on the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma classification,in to five grades of injury.Several imaging modalities have been available for assessing the grade of renal injury,each with their usefulness and limitations.Currently,plain radiographs and intravenous urography have no role in the evaluation of patients with suspected renal injury.Ultrasonography(USG) has a limited role in evaluating patients with suspected retroperitoneal injury;however,it plays an important role during follow up in patients with urinoma formation.USG helps to monitor the size of a urinoma and also for the drainage procedure.The role of selective renal arteriography is mainly limited to an interventional purpose rather than for diagnostic utility.Retrograde pyelography is useful in assessing ureteral and renal pelvis integrity in suspected ureteropelvic junction injury and for an interventional purpose,like placing a stent across the site of ureteric injury.Magnetic resonance imaging has no role in acute renal injuries.Multidetector computed tomography is the modality of choice in the evaluation of renal injuries.It is also useful in evaluating traumatic injuries to kidneys with preexisting abnormalities and can help to define the extent of penetrating injuries in patients with stab wounds in the flank region.The combination of imaging findings along with clinical information is important in the management of the individual patient.This article will describe a spectrum of renal injuries encountered in a trauma setting. | Madhukar Dayal Shivanand Gamanagatti Atin Kumar | 2013 | World Journal of Radiology2013,5,8: | 6 |

High frequency oscillations during underwater motion are responsible for nonlinearities in dynamic behavior of underwater robot as well as uncertainties in hydrodynamic coefficients. Reactive behaviors of underwater robot are designed considering the position and orientation of both target and nearest obstacle from robot s current position. Human like reasoning power and approximation based learning skill of neural based adaptive fuzzy inference system(ANFIS)has been found to be effective for underwater multivariable motion control. More than one ANFIS models are used here for achieving goal and obstacle avoidance while avoiding local minima situation in both horizontal and vertical plane of three dimensional workspace.An error gradient approach based on input-output training patterns for learning purpose has been promoted to spawn trajectory of underwater robot optimizing path length as well as time taken. | 7 | Bacteria as indicators for finding oil and gas reservoirs:A case study of the Bikaner-Nagaur Basin,Rajasthan,India显示文摘Geo-microbial prospecting for hydrocarbons is an exploration method based on the seepage of light gaseous hydrocarbons from oil/gas reservoirs to the surface and their utilization by hydrocarbon oxidizing bacteria.These bacteria utilize hydrocarbon gases as their sole source of food and are found to be enriched in the near surface soils/sediments above the oil and gas reservoirs.The detection of anomalous populations of n-pentane and n-hexane oxidizing bacteria in the surface soils can help to evaluate the prospects for hydrocarbon exploration.A geo-microbial survey has been carried out in the Bikaner Nagaur basin to investigate the prospects for hydrocarbon exploration.In the present study,bacterial counts for n-pentane utilizing bacteria range between 2.0×10 2 and 1.26×10 6 cfu/gm and n-hexane utilizing bacteria range between 2.0×10 2 and 1.21×10 6 cfu/gm.The bacterial concentration distribution maps show four distinct anomalies in the study area.The possibility of discovering oil or gas reservoirs using the microbiological method is emphasized by the fact that the hydrocarbon-oxidizing bacteria range between 10 3 and 10 6 cfu/gm in soil/sediment receiving hydrocarbon micro-seepages.In the present study area of the Bikaner Nagaur basin,n-pentane and n-hexane utilizing bacteria are found between 10 5 and 10 6 cfu/gm of soil sample,which is significant and thereby substantiates the seepage of lighter hydrocarbon accumulations from oil and gas reservoirs.Geo-microbial prospecting studies suggest that hydrocarbon micro-seepage of subsurface origin is present in the study area and indicate that the area has positive prospects for petroleum exploration. | Mohammed Abdul Rasheed Mutnuri Lakshmi Deshoju Srinu Anurodh Mohan Dayal | 2011 | Petroleum Science2011,8,3: | 3 |
| 8 | Effect of replenishment of vitamin D on survival in patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis:A prospective study显示文摘AIM To assess the vitamin D(VD) deficiency as a prognostic factor and effect of replenishment of VD on mortality in decompensated cirrhosis. METHODS Patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis were screened for serum VD levels. A total of 101 VD deficient patients(< 20 ng/mL) were randomly enrolled in two groups: Treatment group(n = 51) and control group(n = 50). Treatment group received VD treatment in the form of intramuscular cholecalciferol 300000 IU as loading dose and 800 IU/d oral as maintenance dose along with 1000 mg oral calcium supplementation. The VD level, clinical parameters and survival of both the groups were compared for 6-mo.RESULTS Prevalence of vitamin D deficiency(VDD) in decompensated CLD was 84.31%. The mean(SD) age of the patients in the treatment group(M:F: 40:11) and control group(M:F: 37:13) were 46.2(± 14.93) years and 43.28(± 12.53) years, respectively. Baseline mean(CI) VD(ng/mL) in control group and treatment group were 9.15(8.35-9.94) and 9.65(8.63-10.7), respectively. Mean(CI) serum VD level(ng/mL) at 6-mo in control group and treatment group were 9.02(6.88-11.17) and 29(23-35), respectively. Over the period of time the VD, calcium and phosphorus level was improved in treatment group compared to control group. There was nonsignificant trend seen in greater survival(69% vs 64%; P > 0.05) and longer survival(155 d vs 141 d; P > 0.05) in treatment group compared to control group. VD level had no significant association with mortality(P > 0.05). In multivariate analysis, treatment with VD supplement was found significantly(P < 0.05; adjusted hazard ratio: 0.48) associated with survival of the patients over 6-mo. CONCLUSION VD deficiency is very common in patients of decompensated CLD.
