Draining Tangjiashan Barrier Lake after Wenchuan Earthquake and the flood propagation after the dam break显示文摘Tangjiashan Barrier Lake is one of the largest barrier lakes caused by the Wenchuan Earthquake. Its risk analysis, emergency plan and effect of the emergency plan are introduced in this paper. The dam height of Tangjiashan Barrier Dam is about 105 m, and the reservoir storage capacity is 3.2×108 m3. When the dam broke the flood peak were estimated to be larger than 48000 m3/s, which might cause a enormous disaster to the downstream cities and residents. A discharge channel with 13 m deep and 8 m wide was drug, so that the water may flow out of the lake before the dam breaks. As a result, the drainage and risk mitigation project are successful. During the drainage process, the flood peak was about 6500 m3/s, and about 1.6×108 m3 of water was drained off and the residual reservoir capacity was only 8.97×107 m3. A new channel with average width 100 m was formed, which can bear floods of 200 years frequency. The successful experience and the collected data can be used to deal with the similar natural disasters in future. | LIU Ning1, ZHANG JianXin2, LIN Wei3, CHENG WuYI4 & CHEN ZuYu5 1 Ministry of Water Resources of the People’s Republic of China, Beijing 100053, China 2 Bureau of Hydrology of the Ministry of Water Resources of the People’s Republic of China, Beijing 100053, China 3 Sichuan Hydrographic and Water Resources Survey Bureau Chengdu 610031, China 4 HydroChina Chengdu Engineering Corporation, Chengdu 610072, China 5 China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, Beijing 100044, China | 2009 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2009,52,4: | 29
Modelling of multi-bodies in close proximity under water waves——Fluid resonance in narrow gaps显示文摘Viscous fluid model and potential flow model with and without artificial damping force(f=-μV,μ the damping coefficient and V the local averaging flow velocity) are employed in this work to investigate the phenomenon of fluid resonance in narrow gaps between multi-bodies in close proximity under water waves. The numerical results are compared with experimental data available in the literature. The comparison demonstrates that both the viscous fluid model and the potential flow model are able to predict the resonant frequency reasonably well. However the conventional potential flow model(without artificial damping term) significantly over-predicts the wave height in narrow gaps around the resonant frequency. In order to calibrate the appropriate damping coefficient used for the potential model and make it work as well as the viscous fluid model in predicting the resonant wave height in narrow gaps but with little computational efforts, the dependence of damping coefficient μ on the body geometric dimensions is examined considering the parameters of gap width Bg,body draft D,body breadth ratio Br and body number n(n = 2,3),where Br = BB/BA for the case of two bodies(Body A and Body B) with different breadths of BA and BB,respectively. It was confirmed that the damping coefficient used for the potential flow model is not sensitive to the geometric dimensions and spatial arrangement. It was found that μ∈ [0.4,0.5] may guarantee the variation of Hg/H0 with kh to be generally in good agreement with the experimental data and the results of viscous fluid model, where Hg is the excited wave height in narrow gaps under various dimensionless incident wave frequencies kh,H0 is the incident wave height,k = 2π/L is the wave number and h is the water depth. | LU Lin1,2,TENG Bin3,CHENG Liang 4,SUN Liang5 & CHEN XiaoBo6 1 Center for Deepwater Engineering,Dalian University of Technology,Dalian 116024,China 2 State Key Laboratory of Structural Analysis for Industrial Equipment,Dalian University of Technology,Dalian 116024,China 3 State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering,Dalian University of Technology,Dalian 116024,China 4 School of Civil and Resource Engineering,The University of Western Australia,Crawly 6003,Australia 5 Centre for Offshore Research and Engineering,Department of Civil Engineering,National University of Singapore,117576,Singapore 6 Research Department,Bureau Veritas,Neuilly-Sur-Seine,92570,France | 2011 | Science China(Physics,Mechanics & Astronomy)2011,54,1: | 29
Simulation of energy and water balance in Soil-Vegetation-Atmosphere Transfer system in the mountain area of Heihe River Basin at Hexi Corridor of northwest China显示文摘In the mountain area of inland Heihe River Basin at Hexi Corridor of northwest China during the vegetation growing season from May to September, the Simultaneous Heat and Water (SHAW) model of Soil-Vegetation-Atmosphere Transfer (SVAT) system is applied to simulating and studying energy and water balance of the soil-residue-plant canopy layers in the Picea crassifolia forest and the grassland by the forest at the shaded slope and the grassland at the sun-facing slope. The simulation of energy balance indicates that net radiation of the grass- land at the sun-facing slope is more than that of the Picea crassifolia forest and the grassland by the forest at the shaded slope. The energy outgoing components are the first latent heat and next sensible heat from the grassland both at the shaded slope and the sun-facing slope, but those at the former are less. The energy outgoing components are the first sensible heat and next latent heat from the Picea crassifolia forest. The composition and distribution of energy in the soil-residue-plant canopy layers in the Picea crassifolia forest and the grassland by the forest at the shaded slope make the soil layer receive less energy, which therefore, especially the forest possesses the energy conditions for soil water conservation. The simulation of water balance indicates that the water loss of the grassland at the sun-facing slope is mainly caused by soil evaporation, while evapotranspiration of the Picea crassifolia forest and the grassland by the forest at the shaded slope is less than that of the grassland at the sun-facing slope. Half of the evapotranspiration of the Picea crassifolia forest and the grassland by the forest at the shaded slope is consumed by transpiration. After precipitation, the soil water storage is increased much more for the Picea crassifolia forest and also more for the grassland by the forest at the shaded slope. Therefore the shaded slope vegetation, especially the forest is favorable for soil water storage. | KANG Ersi1, CHENG Guodong1, , SONG Kechao1, JIN Bowen1, , LIU Xiande3 2 3 & WANG Jinye3 1. | 4 | An analysis on the evolvement processes of lake eutrophication and their characteristics of the typical lakes in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River显示文摘According to the study on the aquatic environment of the typical lakes in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River, lake eutrophication is a process in which the lake ecosystem degenerates, resulting in the deterioration of the water quality due to the enrichment of the nutrients. Moreover, the succession of lake ecosystem and change of water quality both couple well with the evolvement of tro- phic state. Then the conceptual model is mentioned and ten lake states are classified. Based on these, the authors analyzed the eutrophication processes of the typical lakes in the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River. The large lakes with taking in - send- ing out water typical of Poyang Lake evolve from State 1 before the 1980s into State 2 after the 1980s, the large and medium lakes typical of Taihu Lake evolve from State 1-2 in the 1960s into State 8 in the 1980s then into State 9 in the 1990s, the medium and small shallow lakes typical of Honghu Lake evolve from State 1 in the 1960s into State 2 after the 1980s and the small city (suburban) lakes typical of Donghu Lake evolve from State 2 in the 1960s into State 9 after the 1970s. Further, the 1980s is the key con- version period of the lakes of various types typical of Poyang Lake, Honghu Lake and Taihu Lake con- verting into mesotrophic state, the 1990s is that of Taihu Lake into eutrophic state and the 1970s is thatof the small city (suburban) lakes typical of Donghu Lake into eutrophic state. The series of nutrient evolvement of different typical lakes are similar, but the processes are not synchronous, which is related to the various human and natural driving mechanisms in lake basins. | CHENG Xiaoying1,2,3 & LI Shijie1 1. | 10 | Restudies on Body Surface of Dung Beetle and Application of Its Bionics Flexible Technique显示文摘A scanning electron microscope was used to observe the structures of the setae on the surface of a dung beetle Copris ochus, Motschulsky. There are lots of setae on the body surface, especially on the ventral part surface and lateral to the legs which are different in size, arrangement and shape. These setae have different lengths and many thorns on the whole seta. The top ends of these setae stand up without furcations which direct uprightly towards the surface of the touched soil. By the method of removing these setae, getting the insect weight before and after digging into the dung we affirm farther that the setae on the beetle body surface form the anti-stick and non-adherent gentle interface. The soil machines and components made by imitating the gentle body surface of beetles have favorable non-adherent results. | Jiurong Sun 1, Jianqiao Li 2, Hong Cheng 1, Zhendong Dai 3, Luquan Ren 2 1.College of Life Sciences, Peking University, Beijing, 100871,P.R. | 11 | Improving the accuracy of image-based forest fire recognition and spatial positioning显示文摘Forest fires are frequent natural disasters. It is necessary to explore advanced means to monitor, recognize and locate forest fires so as to establish a scientific system for the early detection,real-time positioning and quick fighting of forest fires. This paper mainly expounds methods and algorithms for improving accuracy and removing uncertainty in image-based forest fire recognition and spatial positioning.Firstly,we discuss a method of forest fire recognition in visible-light imagery. There are four aspects to improve accuracy and remove uncertainty in fire recognition:(1)eliminating factors of interference such as road and sky with high brightness, red leaves, other colored objects and objects that are lit up at night,(2)excluding imaging for specific periods and azimuth angles for which interference phenomena repeatedly occur,(3)improving the thresholding method for determining the flame border in image processing by adjusting the threshold to the season, weather and region, and (4)integrating the visible-light image method with infrared image technology.Secondly,we examine infrared-image-based methods and approaches of improving the accuracy of forest fire recognition by combining the spectrum threshold with an object feature value such as the normalized difference vegetation index and excluding factors of disturbance such as interference signals, extreme weather and high-temperature animals.Thirdly,a method of visible analysis to enhance the accuracy of forest fire positioning is examined and realized;the method includes decreasing the visual angle, selecting central points, selecting the largest spots, and judging the selection of fire spots according to the central distance.Case studies are examined and the results are found to be satisfactory. | JIANG LiLi 1,QI QingWen 1,ZHANG An 1,GUO ChaoHui 2 & CHENG Xi 1,3 1 Institute of Geographical Sciences and Natural Resources Research,Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100101,China 2 China Center for Resources Satellite Data and Applications,Beijing 100094,China 3Graduate University of Chinese Academy of Sciences,Beijing 100049,China | 2010 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2010,53,S1: | 9

Bursting of Morris-Lecar neuronal model with current-feedback control显示文摘The Morris-Lecar (ML) neuronal model with current-feedback control is considered as a typical fast-slow dynamical system to study the combined influences of the reversal potential VCa of Ca2+ and the feedback current I on the generation and transition of different bursting oscillations. Two-parameter bifurcation analysis of the fast subsystem is performed in the parameter (I, VCa)-plane at first. Three important codimension-2 bifurcation points and some codimension-1 bifurcation curves are obtained which enable one to determine the parameter regions for different types of bursting. Next, we further divide the control parameter (V0, VCa)-plane into five different bursting regions, namely, the 'fold/fold' bursting region R1, the 'fold/Hopf' bursting region R2, the 'fold/homoclinic' bursting region R3, the 'subHopf/homoclinic' bursting region R4 and the 'subHopf/subHopf' bursting region R5, as well as a silence region R6. Codimension-1 and -2 bifurcations are responsible for explanation of transition mechanisms between different types of bursting. The results are instructive for further understanding the dynamical behavior and mechanisms of complex firing activities and information processing in biological nervous systems. | DUAN LiXia1, LU QiShao2 & CHENG DaiZhan3 1 College of Science, North China University of Technology, Beijing 100144, China 2 School of Science, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Beijing 100191, China 3 Institute of Systems Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100190, China | 2009 | Science China(Technological Sciences)2009,52,3: | 5
Effect of specimen thickness on Mode Ⅱ fracture toughness of rock显示文摘Anti symmetric four point bending specimens with different thickness, without and with guiding grooves, were used to conduct Mode Ⅱ fracture test and study the effect of specimen thickness on Mode Ⅱ fracture toughness of rock. Numerical calculations show that the occurrence of Mode Ⅱ fracture in the specimens without guiding grooves (when the inner and outer loading points are moved close to the notch plane) and with guiding grooves is attributed to a favorable stress condition created for Mode Ⅱ fracture, i.e. tensile stress at the notch tip is depressed to be lower than the tensile strength or to be compressive stress, and the ratio of shear stress to tensile stress at notch tip is very high. The measured value of Mode Ⅱ fracture toughness K ⅡC decreases with the increase of the specimen thickness or the net thickness of specimen. This is because a thick specimen promotes a plane strain state and thus results in a relatively small fracture toughness. | RAO Qiu hua 1,SUN Zong qi 1,WANG Gui yao 2,XU Ji cheng 3,ZHANG Jing yi 3 (1.College of Resources, Environment and Civil Engineering, Central South University, Changsha 410083, China 2.River and Sea Department, Changsha Communications Univer | 2001 | Journal of Central South University of Technology2001,8,2: | 5
| 19 | Forcing mechanism of the Pleistocene east Asian monsoon variations in a phase perspective显示文摘The deep sea records from the ODP Sites 1143 and 1144 in the northern and southern South China Sea (SCS), including foraminiferal δ 18O and δ 13C, Opal% and pollen percentage, reveal that the variations of the east Asian monsoon have been closely correlated with the variations of the Earth’s orbital parameters (eccentricity, obliquity and precession) and the global ice volume on orbital scale. All the monsoonal proxies show strong 100 ka, 41 ka and 23 ka cycles. Although G. ruber δ 13C of Site 1143 is coherent with the ETP (ETP= normalized (eccentricity + obliquity-precession) at eccentricity, obliquity and precession bands, most of the coherent relationship focuses on the precession band, and the other monsoonal proxies are coherent with the ETP only at the precession band, which indicate that precession dominates the Pleistocene tropical climate changes. The phase relationship of the monsoonal proxies with the foraminiferal δ 18O implies that the global ice volume changes have played a significant role in modulating the east Asian monsoon climate, at least dominating the winter monsoon. This forcing mechanism of the east Asian monsoon is apparently different from that of the Indian ocean mon-soon. The variations of the east Asian monsoon at the precession band, at least that of the winter monsoon, have been controlled not only by the sensible heating but also by the latent heating of the surface water in the South China Sea. | TIAN Jun1,2, WANG Pinxian1, CHENG Xinrong1, WANG Rujian1 & SUN Xiangjun1,3 1.
