| 1 | Metal-organic framework coated titanium dioxide nanorod array p-n heterojunction photoanode for solar water-splitting显示文摘This paper presents a p-n heterojunction photoanode based on a p-type porphyrin metal-organic framework (MOF) thin film and an n-type rutile titanium dioxide nanorod array for photoelectrochemical water splitting. The TiO2@MOF core-shell n anorod array is formed by coati ng an 8 nm thick MOF layer on a vertically aligned TiO2 nanorod array scaffold via a layer-by-layer self-assembly method. This vertically aligned core-shell nanorod array enables a long optical path length but a short path length for extraction of photogenerated minority charge carriers (holes) from TiO2 to the electrolyte. A p-n junction is formed between TiO2 and MOF, which improves the extraction of photogenerated electr ons and holes out of the TiO2 nano rods. In additi on, the MOF coati ng sign ificantly improves the efficie ncy of charge in jecti on at the photoanode/electrolyte interface. Introduction of Co(lll) into the MOF layer further enhances the charge extraction in the photoanode and improves the charge injection efficiency. | 3 | Systematic review and meta-analysis of esophageal cancer in Africa:Epidemiology, risk factors, management and outcomes显示文摘BACKGROUND Esophageal cancer(EC)is associated with a poor prognosis,particularly so in Africa where an alarmingly high mortality to incidence ratio prevails for this disease.AIM To provide further understanding of EC in the context of the unique cultural and genetic diversity,and socio-economic challenges faced on the African continent.METHODS We performed a systematic review of studies from Africa to obtain data on epidemiology,risk factors,management and outcomes of EC.A non-systematic review was used to obtain incidence data from the International Agency for Research on Cancer,and the Cancer in Sub-Saharan reports.We searched EMBASE,PubMed,Web of Science,and Cochrane Central from inception to March 2019 and reviewed the list of articles retrieved.Random effects metaanalyses were used to assess heterogeneity between studies and to obtain odds ratio(OR)of the associations between EC and risk factors;and incidence rate ratios for EC between sexes with their respective 95%confidence intervals(CI).RESULTS The incidence of EC is higher in males than females,except in North Africa where it is similar for both sexes.The highest age-standardized rate is from Malawi(30.3 and 19.4 cases/year/100000 population for males and females,respectively)followed by Kenya(28.7 cases/year/100000 population for both sexes).The incidence of EC rises sharply after the age of 40 years and reaches a peak at 75 years old.Meta-analysis shows a strong association with tobacco(OR 3.15,95%CI:2.83-3.50).There was significant heterogeneity between studies on alcohol consumption(OR 2.28,95%CI:1.94-2.65)and on low socioeconomic status(OR 139,95%CI:1.25-1.54)as risk factors,but these could also contribute to increasing the incidence of EC.The best treatment outcomes were with esophagectomy with survival rates of 76.6%at 3 years,and chemo-radiotherapy with an overall combined survival time of 267.50 d.CONCLUSION Africa has high incidence and mortality rates of EC,with preventable and nonmodifiable risk factors.Men in this setting are at increased risk due to their higher prevalence of tobacco and alcohol consumption.Management requires a multidisciplinary approach,and survival is significantly improved in the setting of esophagectomy and chemoradiation therapy. | Akwi W Asombang Nathaniel Chishinga Alick Nkhoma Jackson Chipaila Bright Nsokolo Martha Manda-Mapalo Joao Filipe G Montiero Lewis Banda Kulwinder S Dua | 2019 | World Journal of Gastroenterology2019,25,31: | 9 |
| 4 | MicroRNA profile in neosquamous esophageal mucosa following ablation of Barrett's esophagus显示文摘AIM To investigate the micro RNA expression profile in esophageal neosquamous epithelium from patients who had undergone ablation of Barrett's esophagus.METHODS High throughput screening using Taq Man~ Array Human Micro RNA quantitative PCR was used to determine expression levels of 754 micro RNAs in distal esophageal mucosa(1 cm above the gastro-esophageal junction) from 16 patients who had undergone ablation of non-dysplastic Barrett's esophagus using argon plasma coagulation vs pretreatment mucosa, posttreatment proximal normal non-treated esophageal mucosa, and esophageal mucosal biopsies from 10 controls without Barrett's esophagus. Biopsies of squamous mucosa were also taken from 5 cm above the pre-ablation squamo-columnar junction. Predicted m RNA target pathway analysis was used to investigate the functional involvement of differentially expressed micro RNAs.RESULTS Forty-four micro RNAs were differentially expressed between control squamous mucosa vs post-ablation neosquamous mucosa. Nineteen micro RNAs were differentially expressed between post-ablation neosquamous and post-ablation squamous mucosa obtained from the more proximal non-treated esophageal segment. Twelve microRNAs were differentially expressed in both neosquamous vs matched proximal squamous mucosa and neosquamous vs squamous mucosa from healthy patients. Nine micro RNAs(mi R-424-5p, mi R-127-3p, mi R-98-5p, mi R-187-3p, mi R-495-3p, mi R-34c-5p, mi R-223-5p, mi R-539-5p, mi R-376a-3p, mi R-409-3p) were expressed at higher levels in post-ablation neosquamous mucosa than in matched proximal squamous and healthy squamous mucosa. These micro RNAs were also more highly expressed in Barrett's esophagus mucosa than matched proximal squamous and squamous mucosa from controls. Target prediction and pathway analysis suggests that these micro RNAs may be involved in the regulation of cell survival signalling pathways. Three micro RNAs(mi R-187-3p, mi R-135b-5p and mi R-31-5p) were expressed at higher levels in postablation neosquamous mucosa than in matched proximal squamous and healthy squamous mucosa. These mi RNAs were expressed at similar levels in preablation Barrett's esophagus mucosa, matched proximal squamous and squamous mucosa from controls. | 7 | Response of nephelometric turbidity to hydrodynamic particle size of fine suspended sediment显示文摘Turbidity is used as a surrogate for suspended sediment concentration(SSC),and as a regulatory tool for indicating land use disturbance and environmental protection.Turbidity relates linearly to suspended material,however,can show non-linear responses to particulate organic matter(POM),concomitant with changes in particle size distribution(PSD).In the paper the influence of ultra-fine particulate matter(UFPM)on specific turbidity and its association with POM in suspended sediment are shown for alpine rivers in the Southern Alps of New Zealand.The approach was two-fold:a field-based investigation of the relations between SSC,POM,and turbidity sampled during event flow;and experimental work on hydrodynamic particle size effects on SSC,POM,PSD,and turbidity.Specific turbidity changes over event flow and are sensitive to increasing proportional amounts of sand,UFPM,and POM in suspension.Furthermore,the UFPM is the size fraction(<6 mm)where POM increases.The implications of the current study are that the slopes of turbidity-SSC relations are undesirable in locations that may be dominated by cyclic release of POM or distinct pulses of fine-grained material.At locations where the turbidity-SSC slopes approximate 2,the POM proportion is usually<10%of the total suspended load.However,when turbidity-SSC slopes are<1 this is likely caused by high amounts of side-scatter from UFPM concomitant with higher proportions of POM.Thus,the use of turbidity as a proxy for determining SSC may have serious consequences for the measurement of representative suspended sediment data,particularly in locations where POM may be a significant contributor to overall suspended load. | Christina Bright Sarah Mager Sophie Horton | 2020 | International Journal of Sediment Research2020,35,5: | 3 |

| 11 | Effects of cutting parameter on microstructure and corrosion behavior of 304 stainless steel in simulated primary water显示文摘The influence of surface conditions on the corrosion behavior of engineering structures has been paid more attention.However,there is still a lack of systematic research on the effect of cutting parameters on material’s microstructure and performance in service.In this paper,the effect of cutting parameters on microstructure and corrosion behaviors of 304 stainless steel in simulated primary water is well investigated.The results show that different cutting parameters can cause the superficial layer a gradient microstructure with nanocrystalized layer on top and deformation band structures underneath.With the similar surface roughness,the deformation microstructure can be very different due to the different cutting parameters.The effect degree on the depth of deformation zone is feed rate>cutting depth>cutting speed.The larger feed rate,lower cutting depth,lower cutting rate may induce a deeper deformation zone.With the increasing depth away from the machined surface,the localized corrosion rate is decreased,and at the same depth the localized corrosion rate along the deformation bands is higher than that along the grain boundaries(GBs).The nanocrystalized surface has a smallest general corrosion rate due to the quick formation of Cr rich oxide film.However,once the corrosion penetrates through this nanocrystalized layer,subsequent preferential corrosion at deformation bands and GBs will dominate and may lead to the significant increase of corrosion rate of the component in high temperature pressurized water. | Honglin Yan Jianqiu Wang Zhiming Zhang Bright O.Okonkwo | 2022 | Journal of Materials Science & Technology2022,,27: | 2 |
