| 1 | Mass production of 2D materials by intermediate-assisted grinding exfoliation显示文摘The scalable and high-efficiency production of 2D materials is a prerequisite to their commercial use.Currently,only graphene and graphene oxide can be produced on a ton scale,and the inability to produce other 2D materials on such a large scale hinders their technological applications.Here we report a grinding exfoliation method that uses micro-particles as force intermediates to resolve applied compressive forces into a multitude of small shear forces,inducing the highly efficient exfoliation of layer materials.The method;referred to as intermediate-assisted grinding exfoliation(iMAGE);can be used for the large-scale production of many 2D materials.As an example;we have exfoliated bulk h-BN into 2D h-BN with large flake sizes;high quality and structural integrity,with a high exfoliation yield of 67%,a high production rate of 0.3 g h^-1 and a low energy consumption of 3.01 x 106 J g^-1.The production rate and energy consumption are one to two orders of magnitude better than previous results.Besides h-BN,this iMAGE technology has been used to exfoliate various layer materials such as graphite,black phosphorus,transition metal dichalcogenides;and metal oxides;provings universality.Molybdenite concentrate,a natural low-cost and abundant mineral;was used as a demo for the large-scale exfoliation production of 2D M0S2 flakes.Our work indicates the huge potential of the iMAGE method to produce large amounts of various 2D materials;which paves the way for their commercial application. | Chi Zhang Junyang Tan Yikun Pan Xingke Cai Xiaolong Zou Hui-Ming Cheng Bilu Liu | 2020 | National Science Review2020,7,2: | 10 |
| 2 | Efficient Synthesis of Graphene Nanoribbons Sonochemically Cut from Graphene Sheets显示文摘We report a facile approach to synthesize narrow and long graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) by sonochemically cutting chemically derived graphene sheets (GSs). The yield of GNRs can reach ~5 wt% of the starting GSs. The resulting GNRs are several micrometers in length, with ~75% being single-layer, and ~40% being narrower than 20 nm in width. A chemical tailoring mechanism involving oxygen-unzipping of GSs under sonochemical conditions is proposed on the basis of experimental observations and previously reported theoretical calculations;it is suggested that the formation and distribution of line faults on graphite oxide and GSs play crucial roles in the formation of GNRs. | 3 | Confined van der Waals Epitaxial Growth of Two-Dimensional Large Single-Crystal In_(2)Se_(3) for Flexible Broadband Photodetectors显示文摘The controllable growth of two-dimensional(2D)semiconductors with large domain sizes and high quality is much needed in order to reduce the detrimental efect of grain boundaries on device performance but has proven to be challenging.Here,we analyze the precursor concentration on the substrate surface which signifcantly infuences nucleation density in a vapor deposition growth process and design a confned micro-reactor to grow 2D In_(2)Se_(3) with large domain sizes and high quality.Te uniqueness of this confned micro-reactor is that its size is∼102-103 times smaller than that of a conventional reactor.Such a remarkably small reactor causes a very low precursor concentration on the substrate surface,which reduces nucleation density and leads to the growth of 2D In_(2)Se_(3) grains with sizes larger than 200�m.Our experimental results show large domain sizes of the 2D In_(2)Se_(3) with high crystallinity.Te fexible broadband photodetectors based on the as-grown In_(2)Se_(3) show rise and decay times of 140 ms and 25 ms,efcient response(5.6 A/W),excellent detectivity(7×10^(10) Jones),high external quantum efciency(251%),good fexibility,and high stability.Tis study,in principle,provides an efective strategy for the controllable growth of high quality 2D materials with few grain boundaries. | Lei Tang Changjiu Teng Yuting Luo Usman Khan Haiyang Pan Zhengyang Cai Yue Zhao Bilu Liu Hui-Ming Cheng | 2019 | Research2019,,1: | 7 |
| 4 | Mass production of two-dimensional materials beyond graphene and their applications显示文摘Two-dimensional(2D)materials are promising candidates in wide applications including energy storage and conversion,sensors,flexible devices,etc.The low-cost production of 2D materials with large quantities and demanded quality is the precondition for their commercial uses.For graphene and its derivatives,relatively mature techniques have been established for their scalable preparation and industrial applications.Whereas the mass production of 2D materials beyond graphene is still in its early age and it lacks a summary on this topic.This review systematically describes the state-of-the-art approaches for high-yield preparation of 2D materials beyond graphene,including“top-down”exfoliation and“bottom-up”synthetic approaches.In particular,each method is discussed from the perspectives of its principle,optimization attempts,characteristics of the obtained 2D materials,and its scalability potential.The applications that require massively-produced 2D materials are highlighted,including electrocatalysis,batteries,supercapacitors,mechanical and chemical sensors,as well as electromagnetic interference shielding and microwave absorption devices.Finally,we propose the challenges and opportunities for scalable preparation and commercial applications of 2D materials. | Liusi Yang Wenjun Chen Qiangmin Yu Bilu Liu | 2021 | Nano Research2021,14,6: | 4 |

| 6 | Chemical Vapor Deposition Growth of Two-Dimensional Compound Materials:Controllability,Material Quality,and Growth Mechanism显示文摘CONSPECTUS:Two-dimensional(2D)compound materials are regarded as promising candidates in many applications,including electronics,optoelectronics,sensors,and flexible devices,because they have high carrier mobility,tunable bandgaps,large specific surface area,atomic-level thickness,and cover lots of other properties.In order to bring 2D compound materials from the laboratory to industrial applications,materials preparation is the first prerequisite.Among all methods to prepare 2D compound materials,chemical vapor deposition(CVD)is one of the promising methods because it can grow a series of 2D compound materials with high quality as well as reasonable cost.So far,many efforts have been made in the CVD growth of 2D compound materials with large domain size,controllable number of layers,fast growth rate,and high-quality features,etc.Therefore,the CVD method has shown much potential for the commercialization of 2D compound materials.However,due to the complicated growth mechanism like sublimation and diffusion processes of multiple precursors,maintaining the controllability,repeatability,and high quality of CVD-grown 2D compound materials is still a big challenge,which prevents their widespread use.In this Account,taking 2D transition metal dichalcogenides(TMDCs)as examples,we review current progress and highlight some promising growth strategies for the CVD growth of 2D compound materials.In detail,the key technology parameters that affect the CVD process,including non-metal precursor,metal precursor,substrate engineering,temperature,and gas flow,are systematically discussed.In addition,we introduce some emerging methods in improving the quality of CVD-grown 2D compound materials(e.g.,repairing the sulfur vacancies by thiol chemistry).Then the current understanding of the CVD growth mechanism is summarized and discussed.In the end,we conclude the current challenges and propose the potential opportunities in this field in terms of the growth of novel 2D compound materials(e.g.,p-type materials,2D materials with high carrier mobility,2D materials with wide bandgaps in the ultraviolet regime or narrow bandgaps in the infrared regime,and 2D nonlayered materials),the post-treatment of CVD-grown samples to obtain new 2D materials and heterostructures,and the exploration of the exotic 2D physics and their promising applications.Overall,we believe this review will guide the future design of controllable CVD systems for the growth of 2D compound materials with good controllability and high quality,laying the foundations for their potential applications. | Lei Tang Junyang Tan Huiyu Nong Bilu Liu Hui-Ming Cheng | 2021 | Accounts of Materials Research2021,2,1: | 3 |

| 8 | Interstitial copper-doped edge contact for n-type carrier transport in black phosphorus显示文摘Black phosphorus(BP)has been shown as a promising two-dimensional(2D)material for electronic devices owing to its high carrier mobility.To realize complementary electronic circuits with 2D materials,it is important to fabricate both n-type and p-type transistors with the same channel material.By engineering the contact region with copper(Cu)-doped BP,here we demonstrate an n-type carrier transport in BP field-effect transistors(FETs),which usually exhibit strongly p-type characteristics.Cu metal atoms are found to severely penetrate into the BP flakes,which forms interstitial Cu(Cuint)-doped edge contact and facilitates the electron transport in BP.Our BP FETs in backgated configuration exhibit n-type dominant characteristics with a high electron mobility of^138 cm^2 V^−1 s^−1 at room temperature.The Schottky barrier height for electrons is relatively low because of the edge contact between Cuint-doped BP and pristine BP channel.The contact doping of BP by highly mobile Cu atoms gives rise to n-type transport property of BP FETs.Furthermore,we demonstrate a p-n junction on the same BP flake with asymmetric contact.This strategy on contact engineering can be further extended to other 2D materials. | Ziyuan Lin Jingli Wang Xuyun Guo Jiewei Chen Chao Xu Mingqiang Liu Bilu Liu Ye Zhu Yang Chai | 2019 | InfoMat2019,1,2: | 2 |
