Application of Response Surface Methodolody to Prediction of Dilution in Plasma Transferred Arc Hardfacing of Stainless Steel on Carbon Steel显示文摘The application of response surface methodology was highlighted to predict and optimize the percentage of dilution of iron-based hardfaced surface produced by the PTA (plasma transferred arc welding) process. The experi- ments were conducted based on five-factor five-level central composite rotatable design with full replication technique and a mathematical model was developed using response surface methodology.Furthermore, the response surface methodology was also used to optimize the process parameters that yielded the lowest percentage of dilution.V Balasubramanian A K Lakshminarayanan R Varahamoorthy S Babu 2009Journal of Iron and Steel Research(International)2009,16,1:8
Anti-microbial principles of selected remedial plants from Southern India显示文摘Objective:To examine the anti-bacterial activity of leaf extracts of Morus alba L.(Moraceae)and Piper betel L.(Piperaceae),and seed extracts of Bombax ceiba L.(Borabacaceae).Methods:We have partially purified plant extracts by solvent extraction method, and evaluated the effect of individual fractions on bacterial growth using Escherichia coli(E.coli),Pseudomonas aeruginosa(P.aeruginosa) and Staphylococcus aureus(S.aureus) bacterial strains. Results:Compared with Morus and Bombax fractions,Piper fractions showed significant growth inhibition on all the three types of bacteria studied. The EtOAc-hexane fractions of Piper leaves exhibited significant antibacterial activity with minimum inhibitory concentrations(MIC) of 50 μg/mL culture against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The EtOAc-fractions Ⅰ,Ⅱ,and Ⅳ inhibited bacterial colony formation on soft agar in addition to growth inhibition.A combination treatment of piper fractions with ampicillin resulted in significant growth inhibition in E.coli and P.aeruginosa, and combination with anticancer drug geldanamycin(2 μg/mL) showed selective growth inhibition against P.aeruginosa and S.aureus.Three major compounds,i.e.,eugenol,3-hexene-ol and stigmasterol, were primarily identified from Piper betel leaf extractions.Among the individual compounds, eugenol treatment showed improved growth inhibition compared with stigmasterol and 3-hexene-ol.Conclusions:We are reporting potential anti-bacterial compounds from Piper betel against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria either alone or in combination with drug treatment.Tirupathi Rao G Suresh Babu K J Ujwal Kumar Sujana P A Veerabhadr Raoa Sreedhar AS 2011Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Biomedicine2011,1,4:5
Endoscopic ultrasound guided drainage of pancreatic fluid collections: Assessment of the procedure, technical details and review of the literature显示文摘Endoscopic ultrasound(EUS) guided drainage of pancreatic fluid collections(PFC) has become increasingly popular and become first line management option in many centers. Use of therapeutic echoendoscopes has greatly increased the applicability of EUS guided transmural drainage. Drainage is indicated in symptomatic PFCs, PFC related infection, bleed, luminal obstruction, fistulization and biliary obstruction. EUS guided transmural drainage of PFCs is preferred in patients with non bulging lesions, portal hypertension, bleeding tendency and in those whom conventional drainage has failed. In the present decade significant progress has been made in minimally invasive endoscopic techniques. There are newer stent designs, access devices and techniques for more efficient drainage of PFCs. In this review, we discuss the EUS guided drainage of PFCs in acute pancreatitis.Rajesh Puri Ragesh Babu Thandassery Abdulrahman A Alfadda Saad Al Kaabi 2015World Journal of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy2015,7,4:5
Use of Teriparatide to improve fracture healing: What is the evidence?显示文摘Teriparatide is a recombinant form of the biologicallyactive component of Parathyroid hormone. It has been shown to increase bone mass and prevent fractures in osteoporotic bone. It is licensed by the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of Osteoporosis. Over the last decade, a growing body of evidence has accumulated suggesting a role for Teriparatide in the management of fractures. Studies in both normal and delayed healing models have shown improvement in callus volume and mineralisation, bone mineral content, rate of successful union and strength at fracture sites. However most of these results have been derived from animal studies. The majority of this research on humans has comprised low level evidence, with few randomised controlled trials, many case reports and case series. Nevertheless, the results from these studies seem to support research from animal models. This has led to a growing number of clinicians using Teriparatide 'off license' to treat fractures and non-unions in their patients. This review presents a critical appraisal of the current evidence supporting the use of Teriparatide for fracture healing, delayed unions and non unions and in the setting of osteoporotic fractures, the studies producing this evidence and their transferability to human beings.Satish Babu Nemandra A Sandiford Mark Vrahas 2015World Journal of Orthopedics2015,6,6:5
Ceftazidime resistance in Burkholderia pseudomallei:First report from India显示文摘Melioidosis,a disease of public health importance in Southeast Asia and Northern Australia,of late has shown an increasing trend in India, particularly Southern India. We describe a ease of a 39-year-old diabetic patient with left elbow septic arthritis, multiple liver, splenic abscesses, pneumonia, pleural effusion, followed by sepsis syndrome.Blood cultures and culture of the joint aspirate yielded pure growth of Burkholderia psettdomallei(B.pesudomallei),sensitive to carbapenem,co-trimoxazole and resistant to ceftazidime. The patient was successfully treated with imipenem- cilastin. He was discharged on co-trimoxazole to complete the 24 weeks course and follow-up has continued to date. The patient continues to remain asymptomatic. The case re-emphasizes the need to monitor the trend of B.pseudomallei in India, particularly the development of ceftazidime resistance, which incidentally is the drug of choice.Bijayini Behera TLVD Prasad Babu A Kamalesh Gangadhar Reddy 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,4:3

A framework for building energy management system with residence mounted photovoltaic显示文摘Efficient utilization of a residential photovoltaic (PV) array with grid connection is difficult due to power fluctuation and geographical dispersion. Reliable energy management and control system are required for overcoming these obstacles. This study provides a new residential energy management system (REMS) based on the convolution neural network (CNN) including PV array environment. The CNN is used in the estimation of the nonlinear relationship between the residence PV array power and meteorological datasets. REMS has three main stages for the energy management such as forecasting, scheduling, and real functioning. A short term forecasting strategy has been performed in the forecasting stage based on the PV power and the residential load. A coordinated scheduling has been utilized for minimizing the functioning cost. A real-time predictive strategy has been used in the actual functioning stage to minimize the difference between the actual and scheduled power consumption of the building. The proposed approach has been evaluated based on real-time power and meteorological data sets.Chellaswamy C Ganesh Babu R Vanathi A 2021Building Simulation2021,14,4:2
