2Is multi-hazard mapping effective in assessing natural hazards and integrated watershed management?显示文摘Natural hazards are often studied in isolation.However,there is a great need to examine hazards holistically to better manage the complex of threats found in any region.Many regions of the world have complex hazard landscapes wherein risk from individual and/or multiple extreme events is omnipresent.Extensive parts of Iran experience a complex array of natural hazards-floods,earthquakes,landslides,forest fires,subsidence,and drought.The effectiveness of risk mitigation is in part a function of whether the complex of hazards can be collectively considered,visualized,and evaluated.This study develops and tests individual and collective multihazard risk maps for floods,landslides,and forest fires to visualize the spatial distribution of risk in Fars Province,southern Iran.To do this,two well-known machine-learning algorithms-SVM and MARS-are used to predict the distribution of these events.Past floods,landslides,and forest fires were surveyed and mapped.The locations of occurrence of these events(individually and collectively) were randomly separated into training(70%) and testing(30%) data sets.The conditioning factors(for floods,landslides,and forest fires) employed to model the risk distributions are aspect,elevation,drainage density,distance from faults,geology,LULC,profile curvature,annual mean rainfall,plan curvature,distance from man-made residential structures,distance from nearest river,distance from nearest road,slope gradient,soil types,mean annual temperature,and TWI.The outputs of the two models were assessed using receiver-operating-characteristic(ROC) curves,true-skill statistics(TSS),and the correlation and deviance values from each models for each hazard.The areas-under-the-curves(AUC) for the MARS model prediction were 76.0%,91.2%,and 90.1% for floods,landslides,and forest fires,respectively.Similarly,the AUCs for the SVM model were 75.5%,89.0%,and 91.5%.The TSS reveals that the MARS model was better able to predict landslide risk,but was less able to predict flood-risk patterns and forest-fire risk.Finally,the combination of flood,forest fire,and landslide risk maps yielded a multi-hazard susceptibility map for the province.The better predictive model indicated that 52.3% of the province was at-risk for at least one of these hazards.This multi-hazard map may yield valuable insight for land-use planning,sustainable development of infrastructure,and also integrated watershed management in Fars Province.Hamid Reza Pourghasemi Amiya Gayen Mohsen Edalat Mehrdad Zarafshar John P.Tiefenbacher 2020Geoscience Frontiers2020,11,4:4
3Maturity status classification of papaya fruits based on machine learning and transfer learning approach显示文摘Papaya(Carica papaya)is a tropical fruit having commercial importance because of its high nutritive and medicinal value.The packaging of papaya fruit as per its maturity status is an essential task in the fruit industry.The manual grading of papaya fruit based on human visual perception is time-consuming and destructive.The objective of this paper is to suggest a novel non-destructive maturity status classification of papaya fruits.The paper suggested two approaches based on machine learning and transfer learning for classification of papaya maturity status.Also,a comparative analysis is carried out with different methods of machine learning and transfer learning.The experimentation is carried out with 300 papaya fruit sample images which includes 100 of each three maturity stages.The machine learning approach includes three sets of features and three classifiers with their different kernel functions.The features and classifiers used in machine learning approaches are local binary pattern(LBP),histogram of oriented gradients(HOG),Gray Level Cooccurrence Matrix(GLCM)and k-nearest neighbour(KNN),support vector machine(SVM),Naı¨ve Bayes respectively.The transfer learning approach includes seven pretrained models such as ResNet101,ResNet50,ResNet18,VGG19,VGG16,GoogleNet and AlexNet.The weighted KNN with HOG feature outperforms other machine learningbased classification model with 100%of accuracy and 0.0995 s training time.Again,among the transfer learning approach based classification model VGG19 performs better with 100%accuracy and 1 min 52 s training time with consideration of early stop training.The proposed classification method for maturity classification of papaya fruits,i.e.VGG19 based on transfer learning approach achieved 100%accuracy which is 6%more than the existing method.Santi Kumari Behera Amiya Kumar Rath Prabira Kumar Sethy 2021Information Processing in Agriculture2021,8,2:3
4B cell development is critically dependent on NFATc1 activity显示文摘B cell development in bone marrow is a precisely regulated complex process.Through successive stages of differentiation,which are regulated by a multitude of signaling pathways and an array of lineage-specific transcription factors,the common lymphoid progenitors ultimately give rise to mature B cells.Similar to early thymocyte development in the thymus,early B cell development in bone marrow is critically dependent on IL-7 signaling.During this IL-7-dependent stage of differentiation,several transcription factors,such as E2A,EBF1,and Pax5,among others,play indispensable roles in B lineage specification and maintenance.Although recent studies have implicated several other transcription factors in B cell development,the role of NFATc1 in early B cell developmental stages is not known.Here,using multiple gene-manipulated mouse models and applying various experimental methods,we show that NFATc1 activity is vital for early B cell differentiation.Lack of NFATc1 activity in pro-B cells suppresses EBF1 expression,impairs immunoglobulin gene rearrangement,and thereby preBCR formation,resulting in defective B cell development.Overall,deficiency in NFATc1 activity arrested the pro-B cell transition to the pre-B cell stage,leading to severe B cell lymphopenia.Our findings suggest that,along with other transcription factors,NFATc1 is a critical component of the signaling mechanism that facilitates early B cell differentiation.Sabrina Giampaolo Gabriela Wojcik Stefan Klein-Hessling Edgar Serfling Amiya K.Patra 2019Cellular & Molecular Immunology2019,16,5:3

6Concurrent dengue and malaria in an area in Kolkata显示文摘Objective:To establish the nature and extent of dual dengue and malaria infections in an endemic area through a longitudinal study.Methods:A prospective study was conducted from August 2005 to December 2010 to document the nature and extent of concurrent dengue and malaria infections in an area in central Kolkata,endemic both for dengue and malaria.Results: Of 2 971 suspected cases of dengue fever,in 605(20.36%) persons dengue infection was detected, of whom 46(7.60%,46/605) patients(40 and 6 suffered from secondary and primary dengue fever respectively) were simultaneously suffering from malaria(28 and 18 were infected with Plasmodium vivax(P.vivax) and Plasmodium falciparum(P.falciparum) respectively,such dual infections of dengue and malaria were detected in all the years of the study period,except 2007,indicating intense transmission of both dengue and malaria in the study area,and the phenomenon was not an isolated one,the rate of concomitant infections ranged from 25%in 2009 to 4.9%in 2005.Out of total population surveyed,1.54%(46/2 971) had concurrent dengue and malaria infection.Conclusions:These findings added a new dimension in diagnosis,treatment, epidemiology and control of dengue and malaria.The possible risk of concurrent dengue and malaria infectioas should always be kept in mind in endemic areas for early diagnosis employing modern technology and prompt and effective treatment to avoid serious complications.Amiya Kumar Hati Indranil Bhattacharjee Hiranmoy Mukherjee Bhaswati Bandyopadhayay Deban Bandyopadhyay Rajyasree De Goutam Chandra 2012Asian Pacific Journal of Tropical Medicine2012,5,4:2
7Statistical functions used for spatial modelling due to assessment of landslide distribution and landscape-interaction factors in Iran显示文摘Landslides influence the capacity for safe and sustainable development of mountainous environments.This study explores the spatial distribution of and the interactions between landslides that are mapped using global positioning system(GPS) and extensive field surveys in Mazandaran Province,Iran.Point-pattern assessment is undertaken using several univariate summary statistical functions,including pair correlation,spherical-contact distribution,nearest-neighbor analysis,and O-ring analysis,as well as bivariate summary statistics,and a markcorrelation function.The maximum entropy method was applied to prioritize the factors controlling the incidence of landslides and the landslides susceptibility map.The validation processes were considered for separated 30%data applying the ROC curves,fourfold plot,and Cohen’s kappa index.The results show that pair correlation and O-ring analyses satisfactorily predicted landslides at scales from 1 to 150 m.At smaller scales,from 150 to 400 m,landslides were randomly distributed.The nearest-neighbor distribution function show that the highest distance to the nearest landslide occurred in the 355 m.The spherical-contact distribution revealed that the patterns were random up to a spatial scale of 80 m.The bivariate correlation functions revealed that landslides were positively linked to several linear features(including faults,roads,and rivers) at all spatial scales.The mark-correlation function showed that aggregated fields of landslides were positively correlated with measures of land use,lithology,drainage density,plan curvature,and aspect,when the numbers of landslides in the groups were greater than the overall average aggregation.The results of analysis of factor importance have showed that elevation(topography map scale:1:25,000),distance to roads,and distance to rivers are the most important factors in the occurrence of landslides.The susceptibility model of landslides indicates an excellent accuracy,i.e.,the AUC value of landslides was 0.860.The susceptibility map of landslides analyzed has shown that 35% of the area is low susceptible to landslides.Hamid Reza Pourghasemi Narges Kariminejad Amiya Gayen Marko Komac 2020Geoscience Frontiers2020,11,4:2
8Integration of RFID and Wireless Sensor Networks显示文摘Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) and Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) are two important wireless technologies that have wide variety of applications and provide limitless future potentials. However,RFID and sensor networks almost are under development in parallel way. Integration of RFID and wireless sensor networks attracts little attention from research community. This paper first presents a brief introduction on RFID,and then investigates recent research works,new products/patents and applications that integrate RFID with sensor networks. Four types of integration are discussed. They are integrating tags with sensors,integrating tags with wireless sensor nodes,integrating readers with wireless sensor nodes and wire-less devices,and mix of RFID and sensors. 10Beaconless Position-based Routing with Guaranteed Delivery for Wireless Ad hoc and Sensor Networks显示文摘Existing position-based routing algorithms, where packets are forwarded in the geographic direction of the destination, normally require that the forwarding node should know the positions of all neighbors in its transmission range. This information on direct neighbors is gained by observing beacon messages that each node sends out periodically. Several beaconless greedy routing schemes have been proposed recently. However, none of the existing beaconless schemes guarantee the delivery of packets. Moreover, they incur communication overhead by sending excessive control messages or by broadcasting data packets. In this paper, we describe how existing localized position based routing schemes that guarantee delivery can be made beaconless, while preserving the same routes. In our guaranteed delivery beaconless routing scheme, the next hop is selected through the use of control RTS/CTS messages and biased timeouts. In greedy mode, the neighbor closest to destination responds first. In recovery mode, nodes closer to the source will select shorter timeouts, so that other neighbors, overhearing CTS packets, can eliminate their own CTS packets if they realize that their link to the source is not part of Gabriel graph. Nodes also cancel their packets after receiving data message sent by source to the selected neighbor. We analyze the behavior of our scheme on our simulation environment assuming ideal MAC, following GOAFR+ and GFG routing schemes. 11LaConf:A Localized Address Autoconfiguration Scheme for Wireless Ad Hoc Networks显示文摘We propose a localized address autoconfiguration (LaConf) scheme for wireless ad hoc networks.Address allocation information is maintained on the network border nodes,called addressing agents (AAs),which are locally identified by a geographic routing protocol GFG (Greedy-FACE-Greedy).When a node joins the network,it acquires an address from a neighboring AA (if any exists) by local communication or from the head AA (a geographic extreme AA) by GFG-based multi-hop communication.A Geographic Hash Table (GHT) is adopted for duplicate address detection.Each address is hashed to a unique location in the network field,and the associated assignment information is stored along the face perimeter enclosing that location (in the planar graph).When a node receives an address assignment,it consults with the perimeter nodes around the hash location of the assigned address about any conflicts.AAs detect network partitions and merger locally according to neighborhood change and trigger AA re-selection and network re-configuration (if necessary).We propose to apply a Connected Dominating Set (CDS) to improve the performance.We also evaluate LaConf through simulation using different planar graphs.Xu Li Yanli Deng Amiya Nayak Ivan Stojmenovic Venkat Narasimhan 2011Tsinghua Science and Technology2011,16,5:2
