Phytoremediation and its models for organic contaminated soils显示文摘Soil pollution has been attracting considerable public attentions over the last decades. Sorts of traditional physiochemical methods have been used to remove the organic pollutants from soils. However, the enormous costs and low efficiencies associated with these remediation technologies limit their availabilities. Phytoremediation is an emerging technology that uses plants to cleanup pollutants in soils. As overwhelmingly positive results have been shown, phytoremediation is a most economical and effective remediation technique for organic contaminated soils. In this paper phytoremediation and its models for organic contaminated soils are viewed. The mechanisms of phytoremediation mainly include the direct plant uptake of organic pollutants, degradation by plant-derived degradative enzymes, and stimulated biodegradation in plant rhizosphere. Phytoremediation efficiency is close related to physicochemical properties of organic pollutants, environmental characteristics, and plant types. It is no doubt that soil amendments such as surfactants improve the solubilities and availabilities of organic pollutants in soils. However, little information is available about effects of soil amendments on phytoremediation efficiencies. Phytoremediation models have been developed to simulate and predict the environmental behavior of organic pollutants, and progress of models is illustrated. In many ways phytoremediation is still in its initial stage, and recommendations for the future research on phytoremediation are presented. | GAO Yan-zheng, ZHU Li-zhong * (Department of Environment Science, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310028, China.) | 2003 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2003,15,3: | 37

Interaction mechanisms of organic contaminants with burned straw ash charcoal显示文摘Black carbons(e.g.,charcoal) have a great impact on the transport of organic contaminants in soil and water because of its strong affnity and ubiquity in the environment. To further elucidate their interaction mechanism, sorption of polar(p-nitrotoluene,m-dinitrobenzene and nitrobenzene) and nonpolar(naphthalene) aromatic contaminants to burned straw ash charcoal under different de-ashed treatments were investigated. The sorption isotherms fitted well with Freundlich equation, and the Freundlich N values were all around 0.31-0.38,being independent of the sorbate properties and sorbent types. After sequential removal of ashes by acid treatments(HCl and HCl-HF) ,both adsorption and partition were enhanced due to the enrichment of charcoal component. The separated contribution of adsorption and partition to total sorption were quantified. The effective carbon content in ash charcoal functioned as adsorption sites, partition phases, and hybrid regions with adsorption and partition were conceptualized and calculated. The hybrid regions increased obviously after de-ashed treatment. The linear relationships of Freundlich N values with the charring-temperature of charcoal or biochar(the charred byproduct in biomass pyrolysis) were observed based on the current study and the cited publications which included 15 different temperatures(100-850°C) ,10 kinds of precursors of charcoal/biochar,and 10 organic sorbates. | Wenhai Huang,Baoliang Chen Department of Environmental Science,Zhejiang University,Hangzhou 310028,China | 2010 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2010,22,10: | 14

Local and global behavior for algorithms of solving equations显示文摘The theory of 'point estimate' and the concept of 'general convergence', which were put forward by Smale in order to investigate the complexity of algorithms for solving equations, have been producing a deep impact on the research about the local behavior, the semi-local behavior and the global behavior of iteration methods. The criterion of point estimate introduced by him not only provides a tool for quantitative analysis of the local behavior but also motivates the establishing of the unified determination for the semi-local behavior. Studying the global behavior in the view of discrete dynamical system will lead to many profound research subjects and open up a rich and colorful prospect. In this review, we will make a summarization about the research progress and some applications in nonsmooth optimizations. | WANG Xinghua & LI ChongDepartment of Mathematics, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310028, China Academy of Mathematics and System Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing 100080, China Department of Applied Mathematics, Southeast University, Nanjing 210096, China | 2001 | Chinese Science Bulletin2001,46,6: | 10

Water solubility enhancements of PAHs by sodium castor oil sulfonate microemulsions显示文摘Water solubility enhancements of naphthalene(Naph), phenantherene(Phen) and pyrene(Py) in sodium castor oil sulfonate(SCOS) microemulsions were evaluated. The apparent solubilities of PAHs are linearly proportional to the concentrations of SCOS microemulsion, and the enhancement extent by SCOS solutions is greater than that by ordinary surfactants on the basis of weight solubilization ratio(WSR). The log K em values of Naph, Phen, and Py are 3 13, 4 44 and 5 01 respectively, which are about the same as the log K ow values. At 5000 mg/L of SCOS conccentration, the apparent solubilities are 8 80, 121, and 674 times as the intrinsic solubilities for Naph, Phen, and Py. The effects of inorganic ions and temperature on the solubilization of solutes are also investigated. The solubilization is improved with a moderate addition of Ca 2+ , Na +, NH + 4 and the mixture of Na +, K +, Ca 2+ , Mg 2+ and NH + 4. WSR values are enhanced by 22 0% for Naph, 23 4% for Phen, and 24 6% for Py with temperature increasing by 5℃. The results indicated that SCOS microemulsions improve the performance of the surfactant enhanced remediation(SER) of soil, by increasing solubilities of organic pollutants and reducing the level of surfactant pollution and remediation expenses. | ZHU Li zhong *, ZHAO Bao wei, LI Zong lai (Department of Environmental Science, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310028, China.) | 2003 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2003,15,5: | 8

Effects of Ultrasonic on the Dehydration Function of Sludge and Discussion on Internal Mechanism显示文摘[Objective] The aim was to study the effects of ultrasonic on the dehydration function of sludge and internal mechanism.[Method] Taking the residual sludge from a municipal domestic sewage treatment plant as an object, the effects of ultrasonic time and sound energy density on the dehydration function of sludge were studied firstly, then the internal mechanism of improvement of sludge dehydration function by ultrasonic was discussed.[Result] As the increase of ultrasonic time, sludge particles became smaller, and COD of sludge filtrate went up obviously;meanwhile, the capillary suction time (CST) of sludge increased firstly and then decreased, and the minimum value (75.7 s) appeared when ultrasonic time was 8 s.With the raising of sound energy density, the size of sludge particles went down gradually. However, long ultrasonic time and high sound energy density could decrease the dehydration function of sludge. For the possible mechanism of improvement of sludge dehydration function by ultrasonic, ultrasonic adjusted and regrouped sludge, and hydration water in the sludge was released.[Conclusion] The study could provide certain theoretical foundation for the industrial application of ultrasonic. | SUN Yu-qi1,LUO Yang-chun2 1.Beijing City University,Beijing 100083,China 2.Zhejiang Huanneng Environmental Technolgy Co.Ltd.,Hangzhou 310028,China | 2011 | Meteorological and Environmental Research2011,2,7: | 6

Effect of background electrolytes on the adsorption of nitroaromatic compounds onto bentonite显示文摘To further elucidate interaction of nitroaromatic compounds with mineral surface, the sorption of m-dinitrobenzene (m-DNB) and nitrobenzene to original bentonite in aqueous solution containing different electrolytes (i.e., KCl, NH4Cl, CaCl2 and Tetramethy- lammonium bromide (TMAB)) was studied. The sorption of m-DNB was greatly enhanced with the presence of KCl and NH4Cl, while little influence was observed with CaCl2 and TMAB, following the order of KCl > NH4Cl TMAB, CaCl2, or DI water. For nitrobenzene, sorption enhancement only occurred at high nitrobenzene concentrations in the presence of KCl, and the solute equilibrium concentration at inflexion point was lowered with increasing KCl concentration. These sorption enhancements were significantly promoted with the increase of electrolyte concentration. The salting-out effect is insufficient to account for the sorption enhancement by original bentonite with increasing KCl or NH4Cl concentration. X-ray diffraction patterns of bentonite suspensions indicated that the sorption enhancement of m-DNB was attributed to the intercalation of K+ or NH4+ into bentonite interlayer and then dehydration with m-DNB to form inner-sphere complexes, which caused previously expanded bentonite interlayers to collapse in aqueous suspension, thus further enhanced the interaction of phenyl with siloxane surface. In comparison, the sorption enhancement of NB is attributed to the formation of outer-sphere complexes with K+ at high solute-loadings (> 200–400 mg/kg). The sorption of m-DNB to initially modified TMA+-bentonite and K+-bentonite was almost the same as respective sorption to original bentonite in solution containing TMA+ and K+. | CHEN Baoliang, HUANG Wenhai Department of Environmental Science, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310028, Zhejiang, China. | 2009 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2009,21,8: | 4
Chemical behavior of organic compounds in the interface of water/dual-cation organobentonite显示文摘The sorption behavior of polar or ionizable organic compounds, such as p nitrophenol, phenol and aniline, in the water/organobentonite systems is investigated. Both adsorption and partition occur to the sorption of organic compounds to dual cation organobentonites. The separate contributions of adsorption and partition to the total sorption of organic compounds to dual cation organobentonites are analyzed mathematically in the first time. The factors to the contributions are also discussed. The results indicated that the contribution of adsorption and partition is related to the composition and ratio of dual cation surfactants exchanging onto the bentonite. The sorption of organic compounds to dual cation organobentonite is dominated by adsorption at low concentrations and by partition at high concentrations, making the organobentonites powerful sorbents for organic contaminants over wide range of concentrations. | CHEN Bao liang, ZHU Li zhong * (Department of Environmental Science, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310028, China. ) | 2002 | Journal of Environmental Sciences2002,14,1: | 4
