Support technologies for deep and complex roadways in underground coal mines:a review显示文摘Based on geological and mining characteristics, coal mine roadways under complex conditions were divided into five types, for each type the deformation and damage characteristics of rocks surrounding roadways were analyzed. The recent developments of roadway support technologies were introduced abroad, based on the experiences of supports for deep and complex roadways from Germany, the United States and Australia. The history and achievements of roadway support technologies in China were detailed, including rock bolting, steel supports, grouting reinforcement and combined supports.Four typical support and reinforcement case studies were analyzed, including a high stressed roadway 1,000 m below the surface,a roadway surrounded by severely weak and broken rocks,a chamber surrounded by weak and broken rocks, and a roadway with very soft and swelling rocks.Based on studies and practices in many years, rock bolting has become the mainstream roadway support form in China coal mines, and steel supports, grouting reinforcement and combined supports have also been applied at proper occasions, which have provided reliable technical measures for the safe and high effective construction and mining of underground coal mines.Hongpu Kang 2014International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2014,1,3:117

Research progress of monitoring, forecasting, and prevention of rockburst in underground coal mining in China显示文摘As one of the dynamic disasters of coal mines, rockburst seriously affects underground safe coal mining.Based on the laboratory test, field test, and theoretical analysis, this study proposed the principle of the rock burst induced by the combination of dynamic and static stresses and divided such rock burst into three types, including induced by primary dynamic stress, mainly induced by dynamic stress, and by dynamic stress in low critical stress state. The expressions of the static stress induced by coal mining and dynamic stress induced by mining tremors were obtained. Moreover, theories and technologies at home and abroad were summarized concerning the monitoring, forecasting, and preventing of rockburst. These mainly include the zoning and leveling forecasting method, electromagnetic radiation technology, elastic wave and seismic wave computed tomography technologies in aspect of rockburst monitoring,as well as the intensity weakening theory, the strong-soft-strong structure effect, the directional hydraulic fracturing technology, the roadway support system in regards of rockburst prevention. The prospect of rockburst development suggested that researches concerning the rockburst mechanism should be quantitatively developed around the roadway and coalface surrounding coal-rock mass.It should be focused on the rockburst mechanism and prevention technology of mining with over 1,000 km deep and mining in large tectonic zone.In addition, the monitoring and prevention of rockburst should be based on rockburst mechanism.Linming Dou Zonglong Mu Zhenlei Li Anye Cao Siyuan Gong 2014International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2014,1,3:64
Backfilling technology and strata behaviors in fully mechanized coal mining working face显示文摘Based on the principle of fully mechanized backfilling and coal mining technology and combined with the Xingtai Coal Mine conditions,we mainly optimized the coal mining equipment and adjusted the coal mining method in the Xingtai Coal Mine 7606 working face for implementation this technology.Firstly,we define the practical backfilling process as the ''(from backfilling scraper conveyor's) head to tail backfilling, step by step swinging up of the tamping arm, gradual compacting, moving formed backfilling scraper conveyor when the second tamping arm cannot pass and connecting the immediate roof by back material push front material movement''.Meanwhile, the stress changes of backfill body in coal mined out area was monitored by stress sensors, and the roof caving law was analyzed by monitoring the dynamic subsidence of à210 west roadway of this face. The site tests results show that using this new backfilling and coal mining integrated technology, the production capacity in the 7606 working face can reach to 283,000 ton a year, and 282,000 ton of solid materials(waste and fly ash) is backfilled, which meets the needs of high production and efficiency. The goaf was compactly backfilled with solid material and the strata behavior was quite desirable, with an actual maximum vertical stress of the backfill body of 5.5 MPa.Backfill body control the movement of overburden within a certain range, and there is no collapses of major areas in the overlying strata upon backfilled gob.The maximum subsidence and speed were 231 mm and 15.75 mm/d respectively, which proved the practical significance of this integrated technology.Zhang Qiang Zhang Jixiong Huang Yanli Ju Feng 2012International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2012,22,2:55

Deformability characteristics of jointed rock masses under uniaxial compression显示文摘We investigated the combined influence of joint inclination angle and joint continuity factor on deformation behavior of jointed rock mass for gypsum specimens with a set of non-persistent open flaws in uniaxial compression.Complete axial stress-strain curves were classified into four types,i.e.,single peak, softening after multi-peak yield platform, hardening after multi-peak yield platform and multi-peak during softening.Observation of crack evolution on the specimen surface reveals that the deformation behavior is correlated to the closure of pre-existing joint, development of fractures in rock matrix and teeth shearing of the shear plane. To investigate the brittleness of the specimens, the ratio of the residual strength to the maximum peak strength as well as the first and last peak strains were studied. At the same joint inclination angle, the ratios between residual strength and the maximum peak strength and the last peak strains increased while the first peak strain decreased with the increase of joint continuity factor. At the same joint continuity factor, the curves of the three brittleness parameters vs.joint inclination angle can either be concave or convex single-peak or wave-shaped.Chen Xin Liao Zhihong Peng Xi 2012International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2012,22,2:44
Micro-structural evolution and their effects on physical properties in different types of tectonically deformed coals显示文摘The macromolecular structure of tectonically deformed coals(TDC)may be determined by the deformation mechanisms of coal.Alterations of the macromolecular structure change the pore structure of TDC and thereby impact physical properties such as porosity and permeability. This study focuses on structure and properties of TDC from the Huaibei and Huainan coal mining areas of southern North China.Relationships between the macromolecular structure and the pore structure of TDC were analyzed using techniques such as X-ray diffraction,high-resolution transmission electron microcopy, and the low-temperature nitrogen adsorption. The results indicated that the directional stress condition can cause the arrangement of basic structural units(BSU)more serious and closer. And,the orientation is stronger in ductile deformed coal than in brittle deformed coal.Tectonic deformation directly influences the macromolecular structure of coal and consequently results in dynamic metamorphism.Because the size of BSU in brittle deformed coal increases more slowly than in ductile deformed coal, frictional heating and stress-chemistry of shearing areas might play a more important role, locally altering coal structure under stress,in brittle deformed coal.Strain energy is more significant in increasing the ductile deformation of coal.Furthermore, mesopores account for larger percentage of the nano-scale pore volume in brittle deformed coals, while mesopores volume in ductile deformed coal diminishes rapidly along with an increase in the proportion of micropores and sub-micropores.This research also approved that the deformations of macromolecular structures change nano-scale pore structures, which are very important for gas adsorption and pervasion space for gas. Therefore, the exploration and development potential of coal bed methane is promising for reservoirs that are subjected to a certain degree of brittle deformation(such as schistose structure coal, mortar structure coal and cataclastic structure coal). It also holds promise for TDC resulting from wrinkle structure coal of low ductile deformation and later superimposed by brittle deformation.Other kinds of TDC suffering from strong brittle-ductile and ductile deformation, such as scale structure coal and mylonitic structure coal, are difficult problems to resolve.Yiwen Ju Kray Luxbacher Xiaoshi Li Guochang Wang Zhifeng Yan Mingming Wei Liye Yu 2014International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2014,1,3:43
Dust dispersion and management in underground mining faces显示文摘Presence of fine dust in air causes serious health hazard for mine operators resulting in such serious problems as coal workers’pneumoconiosis and silicosis.Major sources of dust appear of course along the mining face where the minerals are extracted.Proper control and management are required to ensure safe working environment in the mine. Here,we utilize the computational fluid dynamic(CFD)approach to evaluate various methods used for mitigating dust dispersion from the mining face and for ensuring safe level of dust concentration in the mine tunnel for safety of the operators. The methods used include:application of blowing and exhaust fans, application of brattice and combination of both. The results suggest that among the examined methods, implementation of appropriately located brattice to direct the flow from the main shaft to the mining face is the most effective method to direct dust particles away from the mining face.Kurnia Jundika Candra Sasmito Agus Pulung Mujumdar Arun Sadashiv 2014International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2014,24,1:39
Sensing for advancing mining automation capability:A review of underground automation technology development显示文摘This paper highlights the role of automation technologies for improving the safety, productivity, and environmental sustainability of underground coal mining processes. This is accomplished by reviewing the impact that the introduction of automation technology has made through the longwall shearer automation research program of Longwall Automation Steering Committee(LASC). This result has been achieved through close integration of sensing, processing, and control technologies into the longwall mining process. Key to the success of the automation solution has been the development of new sensing methods to accurately measure the location of longwall equipment and the spatial configuration of coal seam geology. The relevance of system interoperability and open communications standards for facilitating effective automation is also discussed. Importantly, the insights gained through the longwall automation development process are now leading to new technology transfer activity to benefit other underground mining processes.Ralston Jonathon Reid David Hargrave Chad Hainsworth David 2014International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2014,24,3:37
Coal mine safety production forewarning based on improved BP neural network显示文摘Firstly, the early warning index system of coal mine safety production was given from four aspects as personnel, environment, equipment and management. Then, improvement measures which are additional momentum method, adaptive learning rate, particle swarm optimization algorithm, variable weight method and asynchronous learning factor, are used to optimize BP neural network models.Further, the models are applied to a comparative study on coal mine safety warning instance. Results show that the identification precision of MPSO-BP network model is higher than GBP and PSO-BP model, and MPSOBP model can not only effectively reduce the possibility of the network falling into a local minimum point, but also has fast convergence and high precision, which will provide the scientific basis for the forewarning management of coal mine safety production.Wang Ying Lu Cuijie Zuo Cuiping 2015International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2015,25,2:35

Therefore, the consulting project 'Technical Revolution in Ecological and Efficient Coal Mining and Utilization & Intelligence and Diverse Coordination of Coal-based Energy System,' initiated by Chinese Academy of Engineering, puts forward three stages(3.0, 4.0 and 5.0) of China's coal industry development strategy. Aimed at 'reduced staff,ultra-low ecological damage, and emission level near to natural gas,' breakthroughs should be achieved in the following three key technologies during the China Coal Industry 3.0 stage(2016–2025): including intelligent coal mining, ecological mining, ultra-low emission and environmental protection. This paper focuses on the development trends of the China Coal Industry 3.0 and its support for China Coal Industry 4.0 and 5.0 is analyzed and prospected as well, which may offer technical assistance and strategy orientation for realizing the transformation from traditional coal energy to clean energy.Guofa Wang Yongxiang Xu Huaiwei Ren 2019International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2019,29,2:37
Mechanical model of water inrush from coal seam floor based on triaxial seepage experiments显示文摘In order to study the mechanism of confined water inrush from coal seam floor, the main influences on permeability in the process of triaxial seepage experiments were analyzed with methods such as laboratory experiments, theoretical analysis and mechanical model calculation. The crack extension rule and the ultimate destruction form of the rock specimens were obtained. The mechanism of water inrush was explained reasonably from mechanical point of view. The practical criterion of water inrush was put forward. The results show that the rock permeability 'mutation' phenomenon reflects the differences of stress state and cracks extension rate when the rock internal crack begins to extend in large-scale.The rock ultimate destruction form is related to the rock lithology and the angle between crack and principal stress. The necessary condition of floor water inrush is that the mining pressure leads to the extension and transfixion of the crack. The sufficient condition of floor water inrush is that the confined water’s expansionary stress in normal direction and shear stress in tangential direction must be larger than the internal stress in the crack. With the two conditions satisfied at the same time, the floor water inrush accident will occur.Yihui Pang Guofa Wang Ziwei Ding 2014International Journal of Coal Science & Technology2014,1,4:35
Mechanical behavior of coal under different mining rates:A case study from laboratory experiments to field testing显示文摘During the development of hot dry rock, the research on thermal fatigue damage caused by thermal shock of cold and heat cycles is the basis that ensures the long-term utilization of geothermal resources, but there are not enough relevant studies at present.Based on this, the thermal damage tests of granite at different temperatures(250,350,450°C)and quenching cycles(1,5,10,15 cycles)were carried out.Preliminary reveals the damage mechanism and heat transfer law of the quenching cycle effect on hot dry rock. The results show that with the increase of temperature and cycles, the uneven thermal expansion of minerals and the thermal shock caused by quenching promote the crack development of granite, resulting in the decrease of P-wave velocity, thermal conductivity and uniaxial compressive strength of granite.Meanwhile, the COMSOL was used to simulate the heat transfer of hot dry rock under different heat treatment conditions. It concluded that the increase in the number of quenching cycles reduced the heat transfer capacity of the granite, especially more than 10 quenching cycles, which also reflects that the thermal fatigue damage leads to a longer time for the temperature recovery of the hot dry rock mass.In addition, the three-dimensional nonlinear fitting relationship among thermal conductivity, temperature and cycle number was established for the first time, which can better reveal the change rule of thermal conductivity after quenching thermal fatigue effect of hot dry rock. The research results provide theoretical support for hot dry rock reservoir reconstruction and production efficiency evaluation.Mingzhong Gao Jing Xie Yanan Gao Wenyong Wang Cong Li Bengao Yang Junjun Liu Heping Xie 2021International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2021,31,5:39
Failure behavior of a rock-coal-rock combined body with a weak coal interlayer显示文摘Using an MTS 815 testing machine, the deformation and failure behavior of a rock-coal-rock combined body containing a weak coal interlayer has been investigated and described in this paper.Uniaxial loading leads to the appearance of mixed cracks in the coal body which induce instability and lead to bursts in coal.If the mixed crack propagates at a sufficiently high speed to carry enough energy to damage the roof rock, then coal and rock bursts may occur-this is the main mechanism whereby coal bumps or coal and rock bursts occur after excavation unloading. With increasing confining pressure, the failure strength of a rock-coal-rock combined body gradually increases, and the failure mechanism of the coal interlayer also changes, from mixed crack damage under low confining pressures,to parallel crack damage under medium confining pressures, and finally to single shear crack damage or integral mixed section damage under high confining pressures. In general,it is shown that a weak coal interlayer changes the form of overall coal damage in a rock-coal-rock combined body and reduces the overall stability of a coal body. Therefore, the whole failure behavior of a rock-coal-rock combined body in large cutting height working faces is controlled by these mechanisms.Zuo Jianping Wang Zhaofeng Zhou Hongwei Pei Jianliang Liu Jianfeng 2013International Journal of Mining Science and Technology2013,23,6:32
